Mooncake time again

Re: Mooncake time again

Sweet old time, 80's... We children used to go out with our little paper lanterns (or did we do this at latern festival? can't remember... ) and walk around and giggle away...

Love the festival, hate the moon cake...

Black, White, Yellow... don't we all have red blood?!! ...or blue occasionally -- in women's TV ads...

Re: Mooncake time again

This was the kind of lantern we used to have!!! And if we were lucky, we would have got a big rooster-booster one!!! Tongue

and this was the kind we were making... of course the paper would have been plain white paper...Tongue

well... people didn't have lots of money back then, but we appreciated every little fun we could have, it was nice. Now, lots of people got rich, and most of people just became greedy... Thinking

Hagen Dazs have the best mooncake ever!
It's actually icecream. Big Grin
Those other mooncakes made of flour I don't really like.

Re: Mooncake time again

The whole thing should be a cheese festival, the moon isn't made out of cake.

That is the best idea I have ever heard. Too bad Chinese people don't like Cheese. You'd think they would Cheese. China.

It just sat in a corner of my room, sealed and unopened (and uneaten). I had some stuff stacked on the box; didn't notice it for a long time.

Re: Mooncake time again

What's the big deal about these things anyway?

Re: Mooncake time again

I quite like the little ones with fruit filling- like dates. Finding an egg yolk is nasty though.

Re: Mooncake time again

the filling should be on the package, just ask the shop assistants, they should know.

Re: Mooncake time again

i have a theory as how the game of hockey was developed: suffice it to say traditionally in China there were a lot of leftover mooncakes each fall season, and as the weather turned chilly ...

Except you don't put a mooncake in an oven then stick your hand up its butt. You can't compare a well cooked turkey and christmas pudding followed by "the wizard of Oz" to a dry cake and clampdowns.

Re: Mooncake time again

i like eggs, i really do, especially hard boiled ones, but the ones in mooncakes are always really salty and encased in minging bean curd paste yak!

They should start putting balls of marzipan inside instead Smile

They are not normal boiled eggs, but "specially cooked" duck eggs. I don't know how are they made... It's called "xian ya dan".

I love it, only the yolk, the egg white is even more salty... (I always throw it away  )

I was talking about XianYaDan's white, not mooncakes anymore. I hate moon cakes.

The turkey is for thanksgiving ......... anyway it was an analogy to lost values and replaced by big business fever.
China will product 20 million tons of wasted packaging, boosting it's pollution by 1.3% in just over 10 days...

And here I was thinking, yeah, that's it. The mooncake is China's answer to the ubiquitous Christmas FRUITCAKE back home.
