Questions about Bookworm

Do you need a membership to get in or just need a membership to borrow books? And if I want to attend an event there do I need a membership?? There's an event tomorrow that I want to attend but I don't have a membership and don't think I want spend 300 on a year's membership just to attend. HELP!! Thanks!

Re: Questions about Bookworm

I think you need membership just to borrow books.
You can go there and attend any events without being a member.
I think.

Re: Questions about Bookworm

Thanks ancicamila.

Can anybody confirm that?

Re: Questions about Bookworm

You don't need membership to attend events.

However, to join kids reading club you do need to sign up.

Re: Questions about Bookworm

Events are free (including the one tomorrow night with Thomas Friedman). I have gone to many of their events and hang out there all the time using their wireless but I am not a member.

Re: Questions about Bookworm

does bookworm take book donations? I got a bunch of books I'm not brining to my new apartment.

Re: Questions about Bookworm

i haven t been in a while
but from my memories, the bookworm s library is almost totally made of donations
the finest of airport s litterature in paperback, tom clancy, dean r koontz, ...
that s why i think that charging a few hundreds for borrowing and not investing it in books is not very friendly
but maybe it has improved...

isn t there a thing there or at le petit gourmand that if u give them 10 books, u got a membership for free?

Re: Questions about Bookworm

No. But they have that thing at Pass By Bar.
I think it's maybe 3 books, or 2, I'm not sure.

Re: Questions about Bookworm

Be very wary of attending the "free" events at the Bookworm. They are usually not well organized and turn into a free-for-all for finding a seat. I actually wish they would sell tickets to all their events. It would be better and you wouldn't have to arrive four hours early in a futile attempt to get a seat!

I agree they should be more organized, like make it clear WHERE the main person/group actually IS, and arrange seating to aim at that person/group/whatever. I haven't been to an event there in a while because it just seems annoying and not very warm and inviting.

Maybe not SELL tickets, but have people RSVP, and say "seats are limited, you must call in advance" etc. Then send the guests a day-before reminder and confirmation so:
1 - they remember to come and they feel welcome
2 - if they're not coming, the seats can be given to someone else.

Just my 2cents.

Glenderful, you've been eating that soap for a darn long time. Isn't it time to change your avatar to, perhaps, an image of the kid falling int he snow with his big snowsuit on & he can't get up? Wink
