Re: A small French question, thanks.....

good luck keith

french is hardcore...

...and once you will master the language of moliere with ease... you will end up telling "dans ton cul!" jokes too... its unescapable...

A: do you know where my cellphone is...? i cant seem to find it...

B: dans ton cul !

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

for the sake of a multilingual board
"dans ton cul" means "in your arse"

french is not sexy or romantic by itself, it what you say that matters, and from my personal experience, french speakers are not more romantic than others, surely not,

@keith
a little suggestion to learning French
to have the courage to keep learning and using it, it's pretty pretty hard to learn French! I have tried for one month, but gave it up finally due to the study.
I guess French is a language that needs your focus all the time.

Good luck to you!

learn to stop being ambiguous in this big big world...

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

Or you just learn to speak Chinese with a French accent. That should serve your purpose... Wink

keith - learn french if you think it's sexy, it doesn't matter if it's difficult or other people don't think it's sexy, if you want to do it then do it. just try.

it might be hard to learn, but so is english and you seem to be speaking that Smile

Especially when they speak it with a quebecois accent like me.

I disagree... every language has characteristics to it that can make it seem one way or another to a person subjectively, but the french (and here I mean language, not nation-state) attitude mixed with the sounds and tones really do make it a sexy language.

modesty will get you nowhere, babochina, french is sexy.

deal with it. Wink

maybe u re right
but i understand french, so the pure sexiness of the sound is not obvious to me
and after 3 years here, where, with a 90% accuracy, ppl tell me as soon as they know i m a native french speaker, "french is so romantic..."
i m growing weary of it
the other 10% usually say : "i studied french for __ years at high school, and i don t remember anything, it was so difficult"
pls, spare me the cliche, i m not even french, i m not of the country of versailles, la tour eiffel and the romantic streets of paris and if u start with france like a nation ... pfff!

but u can talk to me in italian, spanish or cantonese any time u like Wink
sounds so nice

@juhuacha - not if you speak it with a strong quebecois accent like me - the kings french with the accent of a farmer.

It really does depend on the dialect whether it is sexy or not.

sheesh, somebody sure seems to have some pent up feelings about their native land (ie: canadia, not quebec) Wink

next time I see you, we are speaking zee french and I'll judge for myself your accent...

Hmm... podemos hablar en español tambien....

... actually, this makes me wonder: what are the typical adjectives that people apply to various languages/dialects (especially in China, that could be very interesting)

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

Hi, guys, no matter what it is sexy, I am so going to learn it now ! I met a gorgeous girl in subway today, she speaks french, oh my goddess......

Acutually at the begining I dont know she speaks french, but in the end she said "salut".

Anyway, babo, you can speak so much language........which one do you use to think .....in daily life Big Grin

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

depends which situation i m in and who i m with
french, english mostly
dutch (when i ve the opportunity)
chinese (very very basic situations),
i could make up for my forgotten spanish
and if sbd wants any help in latin or ancient greek, i used to kick rearside in both

my country is so small and in the middle of everything in europe, u need some extra languages,
just by ourselves, we ve 3 official languages
(and no, there s no bilishiyu)

in brussels, even for being part-time manicure in a high-end downtown salon, u need to be fluent in french/dutch and english

i just regret i m not a native english speaker with a commonwealth passport Sad
english is much more useful than french in my opinion...

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

french is a nice language, its softer and warmer and you have a lot more options for your formulation ... and surely not as hard to learn as chinese.

i am french, born in germany, but i went to french school in berlin. so i luckily master both without any accent .... very usefull when making fun of my german fellas! Big Grin

just one thing really bothers me ...

where the F§%$ the "cedille" ?!?!?!?

i knew on a macintosh, but i dont see any on the PC keyboard ...
its the little extra under the C

as used in francais .... in which the C is pronounced like a K when written without the 'cedille'

Re: A small French question, thanks.....

i speak french , english and putonghua without a particle of accent

my dutch is heele slecht... but i cant die from miscommunication in "flandre" or even rotterdam [RotterDAMN !!!]

My spanish rocks your socks

...i wish i could speak suomi...

IME MUNAA/SYA PASKAA/VITTU PERKELE!!!

...or serbian

budalou/pichka/kinesi/brate/poz/desi/K-O-M-A-N-E

...its somethin ill learn before i hit the coffin... along with guitar and how to make explosives with stuff that you can find in a wallmart...

a language is the tool that your soul uses to express itself... you curse with it, you show your feelings with it [along with somke wink wink nudge nudge and some lowerlip biting]... it can NOT hurt anybody to learn a new one... even though i can certify that ignorance is bliss... learn french and ull make me happy keith...!
