Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

What do you think? Steak and Eggs and Grandmas Kitchen are average. The Bookworm breakfast is bad. The Den is quite good on the weekends. I'm liking the Vineyard cafe at the moment...

Any other suggestions?!?!?!

Re: Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

how do we define a good breakfast? I think it's not difficult, you just have to have someone who actually eats the stuff slinging the hash. My reviews:

Steak and Eggs: Best all around though the coffee tastes terrible. The service is homey, efficient, yet occasionally irritating (kinda like visiting mom back home)

Grandma's: Good quality but MAJOR points off for only serving breakfast during limited hours. Love the atmosphere but it's never been the same since grandma herself left.

Vineyard Cafe: Decent, especially if you're a UK beans n' floppy bacon sort, though service can be slow. Good coffee.

Goose and Duck: Decent, large portions, you select 8 items from a list of a couple dozen to accopmany your eggs with whatever you want. Dinky Euro-f** coffees in those mini-cups just don't belong in a place as down and dirty as the G&D, they should be serving the stuff in big, manly cups.

The Bookworm: Definitely go for the books. I'd have to say though that of the three meals they serve, the breakfast is the best.

The Den: Fantastic. Then again, almost anything tastes good when you are drunk and it's 4:30am. The velvety sleaze of the place is one-of-a-kind in Beijing.

Sophie's Cafe (Lido area): great little spot. Hardly any seating; breakfast is dirt cheap and comes with a croissant and great coffee. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely worth stopping in.

Grandma's has been serving all-day breakfast for quite some time now. Even when I go there around dinnertime I still order breakfast.

Re: Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

which location? I was at the jianwai soho location last week and I could swear the menu still has time limits on the meals.

You went to Bookworm for breakfast? Are you out of your mind?

Re: Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

I always go to the one on Xiushui next to Steak and Eggs. I know they have an all-day breakfast. I rarely go to the one at Jianwai Soho so I don't know their breakfast hours. They did have different menus for quite a while so it is possible that they have different breakfast policies.

there's no one there at that hour. Though the bacon was wet and floppy (I'm a crispy bacon person myself) and I could do without the beans, it was good. Added bonus: the roof allows the sun to stream right in, giving it a bit of a breakfast nook type of feeling

since when does a menu mean anything?

Wink

I had breakfast there on Saturday at 2pm, so definitely no limit. I only go to Grandma's for their breakfasts... mmm....

Re: Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

I have had breakfast at Grandmas in the afternoon and also for an early dinner, so don't worry about the times.

Re: Best Western Breakfast in Beijing

You guys mean brunch but not breakfast, right?

The portions at American restaurants like Steak and eggs are so big.

I can't take anything for lunch after such a big breakfast full of protein, complicated carbohydrate and oil.

Happy New Year!
