Finnish is a Scandinavian language. It belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family, which mainly consists of Finnish and Estonian (closely related) and Hungarian (very different from Finnish and Estonian).
The other Scandinavian languages - Norwegian, Swedish and Danish (and also Icelandic, since it originated from old Norse) are of Germanic descent.
Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are sort of "brother languages" and we understand each other most of the time, with the exception of spoken Danish that is impossible to understand for most Swedes and Norwegians - some say they (the Danes) speak as if they have their throats filled with porridge.
I am a native Swedish speaker who was taught Estonian by my parents when I was little. This also makes me understand Norwegian, Danish (most of the time) and a little Finnish.
does your name have something to do with Chai Lattee? you like that cinemon type of flavor?
anyway i had a Finnish colleague before, he had really curly blondie hair and always looked shy and quiet, not until he told you to your face very seriouly that his nickname was party tiger, i was laughing to death. we used to go to sauna together and he could stay in for like half of hour, but i really enjoy sauna
but as other nationalities, they can have dumb specimens
like these 2 swedish girls i saw at salud a couple of weeks ago,
who, totally wasted drunk rat-arsed in this systematic way only northern people can have, tried, at the end of the night, to do some pole dancing on one of the big rectangular wooden beams of the building (dj was playing abba) to no avail ... but gravity !

This thread stands as proof - Scandinavians speak Scandinavian languages! And they like saunas, alcohol, are often blond, and think Finns are funny too!

Jeg burde jo kunne snakke norsk når jeg er norsk, derfor er svensk og dansk veldig enkelt å forstå også.
Kan litt finsk på toppen av det hele, men ja, det er vanskelig!
