Well I've heard that the one in Shunyi is closing.

As far as the Jianguomen location goes, I've been hearing for a long time that the entire street that is going to be chaied for years. It could be one of those rumors that everyone thinks is just a rumor until it's gone - like Solutions. But I guess you newbies and semi newbies don't know about that.

And as far as selling boxed lunches on the street goes that's a really smart idea. The embassy has brought over all american workers (with American money) to construct the embassy. They definitely want American food and don't want to spend a bunch of time sitting in a restaurant. I remember him telling me once that he provided meals for a similar project that some foreign company was doing out in the provinces (Hebei?). He said they paid transportation, lodging, a fee for himself and his assistance plus a price-per-head for each person fed. He mentioned that he was turning down other 'gaoji' sounding catering jobs because the money was not right.

Think what you want about Paul and his restaurant - I got moldy pie once, my friend found a cockroach in her water to which she said Paul was very nonchalant, and there is that rumor he slapped a fuwuyuan in the middle of the restaurant- he seems to know his business and I doubt he would get involved in a project if there wasn't a very good bottom line involved.

I know that Steak and Eggs will not close but I know the branch in Shunyi is closed and they will open a new branch in Lufthansa area. The one near Jiangoumen will he keep as it is as long as possible. Why he sell lunchboxes him self is beacuse he love to meet his customers....

And for steak & eggs; been to the one at Jianguomen. Nothing special. Service so so, steak so so, fries so so... not going back. Oh yeah, the beers were ok. But what can you do wrong with a cold Tsingtao ?

yeah go into details sino, there's nothing like good old slander to liven up a dreary thursday.

Steak and Eggs is very average food, and good for those times when you feel like eating average food. You know, sometimes certain food tastes better when it's not as high quality. Maybe i'm just talking bollocks. Not really concentrating on this post.

I'm a very simple minded eater.

I eat in 'top' restaurants all over the world because of my work, but nothing I've eaten really impressed me.

But i do really like eating at S&E. I find it to be a friendly, no nonsense kind of place, and that's what i like. Pizza, burgers, pasta, milkshakes and of course the awesome breakfasts. Never noticed it was dirty, or the the staff to be unfriendly.

Then again, maybe I've been in China too long?

I had the worst pasta with salmon and cream sauce one can imagine at Steak and Eggs. The salmon tasted like an old dishcloth, although I have never tasted one. The grey "cream" sauce looked as if somebody had already eaten it once. It was really an achievement that somebody can make food taste so awful. Stopped going to Steak and Eggs after that.
