Try 5.19 bar(or a bar with numbers in the name there, not sure if its 5.18or5.19) in the lady's street, the chocolate cake they made at a friend's wedding receiption there was just amazing, i dont really have sweet teeth, but i couldnt have enough of the cake then

Its all sponge cake with some weird white frosting...occasionally there's fruit between the layers of sponge cake. No luck finding any good cake or cheese cake.

Strawberry shortcake is the only time sponge cake should be used....there ought to be a law.

try some foreign restaurants in Beijing....there are lots of places to get decent cake.

where do you live?

there are dozens of places to get amazing cake in beijing these days.. christ... its not 2001 any more.

even starbucks have EXCELLENT cheese cake now.

Their chocolate cakes are out of this world - and that's from a chocolate fan who's lived in a fair few gastronomic cities.

And you can get individiual ones so you don't need to share with anyone!

I'm sure most of you guys are speaking of places around the CBD and chaoyang. Unfortunately for me, my stomping ground is the ShangDi area :cry:

I usually just make my own chocolate cake from scratch using fantastic cocoa from Russia.

The best chocolate cake ive had here is the kind you can make yourself from Duncan Heinz or Betty Crocker. Same with the frosting.

You haven't had my Texas Cake.

However, that is totally irrelevant as it isn't readily available.

If you buy me a standard oven I would be more than happy to help you out.

I am definately not from Texas btw.

That was the name my grandmother from South Carolina had for it.

Wow guys. I'm surprised and disappointed that no one has come up with the best one yet. I love chocolate cake. Buying your own and making it from a mix is pretty good. Mare's chocolate lava cake is divine. Comptoirs de France has amazing pastries, but their cakes are not quite as good.

For my money, the only place in Beijing for a really good pre-made chocolate cake is at a place that does NOTHING EXCEPT CHOCOLATE CAKE (and ice cream). A bit hard to find, in Wanda Plaza, but they are amazing.

Besides chocolate cake, they also make very best Tiramisu.

Apart from China Central Place, the second location is at East Lake Villa. Good atmosphere, certainly decent product and service. Com de France is a family business since 1855, if I remember right.

I must to say so accept 8-)

Awfully Chocolate is really so so, especially when you pay around 140 kuai for a very basic version, then not impressed with its mediocrity in terms of taste and package... But I mean the Chinese girls work there pretty hot tho...

Noooooooooooo! The cheese cake there is the worst! It's some kind of spongy material, but certainly isn't cheese cake.

I ordered some kind of berry cheese cake there once and it was just a normal white thing made with dense amounts of fat. Given the price you can definitely skip this one.

Another time I did get a nice chocolate cake there though.
