Date Ideas - anything unique?

We go to nice restaurants, go for drinks and watch movies all the time. What are other things you can do at night in Beijing for a very special date?

There are some hotsprings about 40 minutes down the Badaling express way.
I think a villa with a private outdoor hot tub was Y1200 a night

Not sure how far into the relationship you are, but that could be nice at the right time...

i used to meet someone at 3 am near his house at the riverside. that's cold! man
but that could be unique and fun

Re: Date Ideas - anything unique?

well if you aren't into the full blown 1200 kuai a night commitment yet, you could always treat her to a 68 kuai (plus extras hehe) bathhouse experience. There is one next to the public library near PanJiaYuan, another one I know is near ChaoYang West Gate. . . .

If that doesn't work, try dropping her off at my place and picking her up in the morning lol.

Re: Date Ideas - anything unique?

During my six years here in BJ the coolest thing I have done (many, many times) is to go camping on the Wall. Obviously, you have to hit the non-tourist spots, but pm me and I'll forward you a few good locations.

Sunrises up there are amazing.

As for the hot spring hotels, I know of one that lets canines like me rent rooms. I can tell you from experience that you can rent a room with private outdoor hot spring bath for around 400rmb per night.

Re: Date Ideas - anything unique?

One date I've never forgotten was with an arty girl who took me to a pottery shop where she knew the owner, who let us use the his "potter's wheel" and make some little things. So, maybe there's something creative you'd enjoy doing together. Another ex-girlfriend of mine made amateur movies, which I would help with. Cooking or baking together is an old favorite.

Styles...do exactly the opposite of what you'd normally do... go slumming.

Hit up a local cheap cheap restaurant...smoke horrible 3 quai cigarettes... dress shabbily... for a laugh.

Or...

Seriously this time, I've done this, rent a motorized boat on one of the local lakes, take some booze and food and cruise around the lake, I brought my Ipod and portable speakers... pretty fun.

The boats aren't fast, but they have an electric motor, you just steer. You can have a little boat party.

LOL/ but if u two are planning for a long-term relationship, so what u need to do is to keep and enhance the chemistry between each other. yup?

i know some suburbs around Beijing are really nice, they provide some nice villa on the mountains, good local flavors, even hotsprings. and u will see that doing the same thing in a totally different environment will give u a totally different feeling.
Wink
if u two have spirit of adventure, i bet u can make it many many...........

The boat party is a very good idea. Which lakes do you go to? Probably for a little bit later in the spring, but still.

I also want to hear where some of these villas are. Any of them listed in the directory?

Re: Date Ideas - anything unique?

I would recommend two things:

Try to hire a boat at the Summer Palace's lake - still a bit to chilly but you can warm yourself up together or take the valet out and invite her to the Courtyard at Forbidden City. Still the best place to invite somebody you care...

The good thing there is, that it is fusion, so - if you are a Caucasian and she is Chinese, you will always find food which fits the opportunity.

Attentive service, excellent food, nice setting. What you want more?

Please note, I am not working for the Courtyard but convinced my wife there to marry me......

We were recently back there, still the best for a romantic date.

Try it and let me know

Cheers

They're on the expensive end but the villas in the suburbs you could consider are the Red Capital Ranch
www.redcapitalclub.com.cn

or the Commune at the Great Wall

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions.

The boat in Yiheyuan is a great idea. What are other places where one can take boats? I'm just asking for the sake of information and getting options for others. I've already worked out the date this time.

These villas are extremely nice but a bit expensive and the panshiyi/zhang xin connection of the commune is a turn-off. What are some more reasonable (less well-known) options?

Is there any way to have a massage in an interesting location?

What about towers or rotating restaurants where you have a view (on clear days)?

I'm just trying to brainstorm ideas for the use of all forum members now. I think it is always good to have unique date options.

Zen Spa is amazing. They've got great design, decor and service. A cheaper alternative would be Dragonfly in the Sanlitun area. The design in Dragonfly is also very good.

Does China have any hot air balloon rides? Helicopter rides? Bike tours? Beach trips? I think those are all fun things to do. (If they are available and not too expensive in BJ).

Does Beijing have any Bed and Breakfast places? I wonder if that concept exists here.

For guys, you can take a walk and just go shopping with girls. You don't necessarily have to buy anything. Taking the effort to point out what may look good on each other can be very fun. Most guys dread shopping with girls so the effort you take also shows you are sincerely trying to get to know the other person's tastes.

Hot air balloon is a good idea.
