Re: Beijing's Best Middle Eastern Restaurant
Interesting question. I always think of Middle Eatern food as being Arabic style (hummus, tabouleh, felafal, etc.), which Rumi is not. Granted, Rumi is still Middle Eastern, but it's Persian food and so in a different category of taste. OK. I know that Bite a Pita is owned and run by Israeli's and prossibly considered by them as having Israeli food vs. Arabic (i best keep politics out of it), but it's the same stuff you'd get an any good Arabic restaurant and having grown up surrounded by Arabic food in my family, I can say that it is withoyt a doubt the most authentic I've had in town. Well, their felafel needs work but otherwise, it's excellent stuff!

I love Rumi. The food is excellent, the service lovely and the atmosphere is a nice combination of sophistication and casual. Its the kind of place where I want to wear a nice outfit, but still feel like I could take my 2 year old.
But the food! Screw the atmosphere - if it was a whole in the wall with 2 tables and pit toilet I would still go back. Fresh, well prepared, delicately spiced, generous portions, shikabobs the size of my head . . . How did I miss this place for almost all of the 1st year I lived here? I cannot wait to go back.
I like Bite a Pitta a lot, especially for lunch. But there is something special about Rumi that shouldn't be overlooked.

I completely agree with everything what GraceLi wrote.
I LOVE Rumi.
Biteapitta is nice, bit it is more like a fast food place than a real restaurant.
Oh, and I so LOVE the safron and rose ice cream at Rumi.
I mean, enyone who goes there, and tries, well, whatever, the humous, some other salads, the kebobs, the fish, the rice, EVERYTHING is just perfect.
