Suggestion for future editions of Mandarin phrasebook
An index would be really useful, but given it's meant to be carried around, why not put a page number next to the words listed in the mini-dictionary at the back?
Sometimes what you want to look for does not fall under a distinct category and it's hard or even impossible to find what you're looking for especially if you need to find it quickly. So if you could look up the word at the back and then be directed to the page number/s of the section/s it appears in, then you'll be able to find related words/phrases.
HOpe that made sense.

A Chinese friend looked at it and felt as though some of the phrases were Chinglish. He said that some common English expressions had been translated and that they were things that Chinese people would never say. I don't know if that was intentional or not.

i'd love to hear some specific examples so that we could correct them -- we're about to go into our third printing of the book

Don't use colors like orange for printing type. In low light or for old eyes it is practically impossible to read against a white background. Color-wise simple is better.
