nepal to tibet with Z visa
Hi, i'm planning to enter china from nepal on a Z visa, it will be the first entry on this visa.
Will this work? someone told me that i need the residence permit sticker (obviously not possible before entering) to avoid having to scrap my Z for a tibet/group visa. (not an option)
i guess i will find out when i get to ktm but until then any advice gratefully appreciated, thanks.

Re: nepal to tibet with Z visa
As far as I am aware, all foreigners require an additional travel visa to go to Tibet.
From what I understand, it is available at Chinese Embassies in foreign countries and through Chinese travel agencies within China.
I had to do the same thing when entering Bhutan from India.

Re: nepal to tibet with Z visa
AFAIK, Tibet travel permits are only available in-country.
All foreigners need one unless you have PR.

Re: nepal to tibet with Z visa
Be sure to have your Z visa changed to Residence Permit for Work within 30 days after entering China. Or it will expire and you will be fined.
In order to do that, first you have to go to the city where your employer is, instead of going to Tibet first. As you know, when converting the visa your company's business license is required by the Public Security Bureau. Thus it is beyond your control.
It's called Tibet Travel Permit, not a visa. Tibet is quite a sensitive place of China.
As far as I know, there are 2 kinds of Tibet travel permits.
You can have a do-it-yourself travel to Lhasa.
If you want to travel to more places besides Lhasa, you have to join in a travel group.

Re: nepal to tibet with Z visa
From that I have read to enter Tibet from Nepal, from that I have read its a different set of, you need the basic Tibet permit, plus you need a Chinese visa that is issue from the Nepal office as well, any other Chinese visit is not valid......
Just as what Hutong_Harry has said.

Re: nepal to tibet with Z visa
Some places in China were still issuing the yearly 'Z' visas as late as spring of this year. (ie. after you enter China on the temporary)
He may have a 'Z' but he has all the other bs we had to deal with before with the little green book etc.
When we went to check into a hotel in Tanggu 6 months ago, everyone with a Residence permit had to wait for the local PSB to arrive because the hotel was refusing to let us check in because all our old 'Z' visas had expired.
One guy was still working off a 'Z' and he had no problems.
The 'Ripple' can be slow going across China.
