Mongolians and Visas?
I got my new visa last week and went to the Police station to register with them. Unfortunately, because of various problems I had to go three days running before I could get it properly sorted. However, each time I went there were always some Mongolians there who also wanted to register but every time they approached the woman at the computer she started shouting about how they wouldn't register anyone from Mongolia and she was getting very angry because the Mongolians didn't speak Chinese, in the end she more or less told them to f*** off. Does anyone know what all that's about?
No! The hedgehog can never be buggered at all!!!!

Re: Mongolians and Visas?
I don't know any laws, but on my recent trip to Mongolia the Mongolians didn't seem to like Chinese very much. I think they both think the other is a bit uncivilized, to put it nicely.
Can't we all just get along?

Re: Mongolians and Visas?
Probably historical 'baggage' as the phrase goes. There was some fairly large scale slaughter of Mongolians north of the wall during the Manchu reign in China. A trail of blood going back into the past. Then the Chinese 'assimilation' policies forced on the Mongolian nationality in Inner Mongolian didn't imrpove rthe relationship with Mongolia either (witness the attempt to make the province of Inner Mongolia 'disappear' - it was broken up into areas to be appended to neighbouring provinces e.g. Heilongjiang etc.) The Mongolians were also standing with the Russians during the cooling of the Soviet-Chinese relation in the 60s. Finally, Mongolians are central Asians by culture (one of the nations of the 'felt-wall' peoples - the Kazakh, the Kirghiz, the Turkmen etc. the 'felt-wall refers to the yurt, or 'ger' in Mongolian). Central Asians linguistically and cultural are far from being Asian in the sense we think of (eating with chop sticks, for example, growing rice and so on)
Generally Mongolians have a habit of looking south and saying 'That used to be all ours once'. Chinese look north and say the same, I think.

I don't think it is got anything to do with two countries historical issue. Anything can happen any countries citizen. It is either because misunderstanding or ignorance.

Re: Mongolians and Visas?
Only the over forties here are for "work and studies", other are kind of busy with studying the belt & wallet region of the foreigners....
But in general I agree, now, the general policy of the PSB is to support their "local workers", because of the financial crisis.....

Re: Mongolians and Visas?
FYI: Central Asia is not a homogenous territory. It is more diverse than Europe in the sense that you have Kazakhs and Kyrgyzs who look like and share a lot with the Mongols. You then have Turkmens who are like Turkish and Azeri (although with more nomadism until 20th century), Tajiks who are close to Pushtun and Persians and Uzbeks who are very much close to Tajiks except for the language. Chinese mostly have dealt with Mongols, Kazakhs and Kyrgyz and less so with other more Persian-by-looks people of CA.
