Dr tony beck
Very cool guy, took the cockatoo to see him just before the holiday and haven't had a chance to report. They hadn't seen many birds in there, at least not as big as mine and they were just aces with him. Dr. Beck is calm and competant and he brought in all four of his assistants to stand in front of the big glass window, so when we let him out of his carrier we wouldn't fly into it. If you've ever heard the sickening thump of your best friend hitting glass hard and fast, you'll understand why this was important. We did a nail clip and he was just bleeding and bleeding and Dr. Beck was just dealin with it, keeping me calm dealing with the bird, getting the living crap chomped out of his gloved hand and never once did I worry about my little buddy.
If he can work the wonders he did with cyrus, he can take care of your dog or cat and english speaking to boot! I give him double thumbs up!

Re: Dr tony beck
Yeah, he's good. I'll travel all away across town to see him if my dogs have any medical problems.
He knows his sh*t, not like some of the local vets who are untrained and just make uneducated guesses.
Tony has medicine the other vets don't have access to.
Also, you can tell the guy genuinely likes dogs, he is very good with them, soothing them and making friends right away.
Good guy.

Re: Dr tony beck
@ babo, yeah he's fine, I jsut took him in to get a baseline because you shouldn't wait until your pet is sick to see the vet and he needed the kind of nail trim I couldn't do at home.
@ Hero,, I agree with you 100% the guy is a professional. Poor thing the first thing my little feather buddy did was nail me, I was just spurting blood, Dr. Tony was trying to be sure I was okay, and his staff was just a little freaked out (and anyone would be when confronted with a kilo of pissed off claws and beak, it was after all the little guy's first Dr. Visit.) He's really really fab, got his staff moving, got the bird in control and made sure I wouldn't bleed to death until we got the nails cut. I, like you, would sit in a taxi from another town just to see him.
He's not the cheapest guy in town, but I also think when he tells you something it's the truth, and when you get medicine, it's legit and not that watered down stuff people give out in some clincs. Doc did a lot of research before I even arrived on what we could do test wise (because uhh bird health in china leaves a lot to be desired), and if we should do them,, and I respect anyone who appears to love my little guy as much as I do. and there's a plan, Tony got into his network of other doctors in Hong Kong and singapore and made some plans in case Cy ever gets sick so we can get test results and things back. Excellent service, he got paid for none of the time he spent just talking to other doctors, spending time with his books to refresh his BIRD IQ, and most important, Hero's got it right. the guy loves animals and it shows.

Re: Dr tony beck
He's a cool guy.
I got into a loud argument with him once, but it was my fault and he accepted my apology and continues to treat my animals whenever I need.
He's a real professional, the best vet in Beijing.

Re: Dr tony beck
COOL! how much hassle did you have getting your 'too into China? Where did you come from ?
I wanted too bring my lil' feathered klepto' (GS2 same as yours) out here after it dawned on me I was going to be out here for more than a few months.
Did some research and realised it was going to be a hell mission to get them back into the my country when I returned because of local indigenous parrot populations and the (well founded) fear our bio-security guys have of beak-and-feather disease ever finding its way in.
Ended up leaving her with some friends back home while I'm out here.
Damn - imagine the odds of finding an avian vet over here, bloody lucky.
I had a hard enough time finding one back home as it was and ended up doing nail and feather clips myself.
If you persevere you get to the point where you can do it by yourself and your bag of feathers will treat it as affection/grooming behaviour.
Large birds toenails shouldn't bleed when you clip them.
You only want to take the hard sharp tips off so you aren't getting the pin cushion treatment and getting you arms carved up - they shouldn't be cut all the way down to the core blood vessels.
Thats quite painful for the bird and they will piss blood out of their toes same as they will if they snap or split a 'blood feather'.
