Beijing Duck
Trust me, I did use the search engine - it didn't find anything.
So the question is this, me and my friend have been living a long time in Beijing but haven't yet tried this succulent dish. I know of Chuanjude chain, but suspect it's hella crowded and expensive. Since I realize it's JUST a roasted duck and shouldn't be overpriced, I'm looking for a cheap and quiet place to eat it. Hopefully near east Sihui area. Please

Re: Beijing Duck
there is a place just north of the Winterless Center on the east end of Guanghua Lu near where it intersects with Dawang Lu that is not bad and reasonably priced.
The most delicious in my opinion is Da Dong, but it's not cheap, if I recall correctly it's about 100 per duck

Re: Beijing Duck
Da Dong is where I go to impress visitors - a bit more pricey, but they do the cutting next to your table. To have BJ duck on my own or just with some friends, I go to Huajia Yiyuan on Ghost Street.

Sihui, you say?
There's a good place on Baiziwan Lu, up near Dawang Lu end that does a good duck. Don't know the name, but it's the last restaurant on the left before you reach Dawang Lu.
68 for a top notch kao ya.

Re: Beijing Duck
you can try "Ya Wang", namely Duck King, personally think it's better than Chuanjude, price is a lil cheaper, there is one in Zhi Chun Lu, but I guess you can google and see if they have any nearby your place...

Re: Beijing Duck
Ya Wang was pretty good, but only slightly less expensive than Da Dong for a much less 'nice' place (I went to the one at Jiangguomen). Da Dong, you need to reserve a day or so ahead of time, even on weekdays, unless you want to take your chances and wait. But it's the best.

Re: Beijing Duck
Cool, I knew most of these places are in the center. Actually I live two stations east of Sihui. I'll try to find these places you've suggested. Thanks.

Re: Beijing Duck
That's right. No need to try expensive ones if you are in Beijing. Most of the beijing ducks are ok.
Never step out of a bus or a train at east of Sihui. But I know there is one duck right behind the Capital Univ. of Economics and Business.
But, to me, an expensive duck dinning is still worth a visit or two, ok... just don't get addictive. Because it can convince you that being rich doesn't mean you have so much more options than others. Plus, expensive restaurants do offer some special services than inexpensive ones. Say Quanjude(chuanjude) is the only restaurant, as I know, provides an ID of the duck you ate, but it gotta be a whole duck.
Don't you want to remember whom have been eaten by you?
NO!!! not 'je je'...
