Amazon.com vs Amazon.cn
Of course Amazon has eveything that I need. (Chemistry, Math, Physics textbooks for first-year university.) But the delivery is slow and the charges high.
Can I order English-language texts via the Chinese Amazon and save on delivery charges and time?
The selection on Chinese Amazon looks pretty poor. Is there an Amazon copy that carries the kind of stuff (Englsih-language science texts) that I'm after?

Could you tell me the name of the book you want?
There is some English version books in amazon.com, you could check it yourself.

Re: Amazon.com vs Amazon.cn
I'm looking for "Organic chemistry as a second language" by David R. Klein, and "General Chemistry" by Zumdahl.
I've looked on Amazon.cn and they seem to have books for children or obscure stuff like "Proof theory in computer science".
Do you know if Amazon.cn will provide books that I find on Amazon.com?
I'm in Beijing.
Thanks.

Re: Amazon.com vs Amazon.cn
EVERY book being sold in China must be assessed by the government first, little bookshops might get away with selling what they want but not someone as big as amazon. Thats why the selection of books is limited in China.
I don't think you can actually buy books from amazon.com and have them shipped to China, you have to buy them from .cn version which has the government approved books.

Yep, just like what gaz_hayes said, amazon.cn can not sell the book to you which you found in Amazon.com, Chinese government doesn't allow them to do that and they also have the rules within the company.

Re: Amazon.com vs Amazon.cn
Dangdang.com is better than Amzon.cn in China.
There are some websites provide English service of buying online here:www.heynihao.com
Find them at the section
www.heynihao.com website for non-chinese speakers who live or travel in China.

you can get books shipped from amazon.com to China, I have done it several times. You have to pay higher shipping costs, but the books get here quickly (within 10 days)

Oh ok thats good to know because i've been buying books from amazon.com and getting them sent to a friend in the US who redirects them to me, I'll try just using my chinese address directly instead and see what happens.

I order books from amazon.com all the time, and they have always arrived here in Beijing (sometimes only after 2-3 weeks). Hope this helps.

Re: Amazon.com vs Amazon.cn
well if expatmart doesn't have it(which means amazon china does not have), i guess you will have to ship from there, but shipping is expensive. if expatmart has it, it is free shipping, wouldn't that be nice... hehe, of course i am biased

items for you on Amazon and let you know when amazon has them in stock at regular retail price.
