Hard Rock Cafe
I'd heard good things about the burger and the band, but had never been there until last night. Pretty bad experience - there were about four male customers and about 25 women - obviously not customers - aggressively pursuing them.
I felt like some wildebeast that had become estranged from the pack and detected by a group of hyenas. They were totally relentless. Statements such as I am not interested, I am a eunuch and We are not the right star signs had zero effect. I have nothing against someone plying their trade, but when it is obvious that the service is unwanted and said service providers continue unabated, and when seeing this the bar staff do nothing to alleviate the situation for someone paying 60 kuai for a pint of beer, well... I guess they won't be getting much repeat business from people like me.

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
I've always hated the Hard Rock Cafe. It doesn't matter much which country. The food is overpriced and awful! It was cool back in the early 80's. Remember how everyone wanted those shirts?

Boyce, I think you're probably the last one in town to discover this.

AB,
I'm comfortable having this distinction.
I had heard about the ways of the Hard Rock Cafe, but I was unprepared for the relentlessness of the women there. They make those in Hollywood and Maggies seem like shy schoolgirls.

It's sad though. Tourists love going to the Hard Rock Cafe when they go to a new city. The impression that tourists will leave with is pretty obvious.

AMERICAN tourists love
slightly out of the way : can i mention i saw 2 saturdays ago (halloween at rickshaw) a girl from maggies providing a buccal service to one of the customers just outside of the entrance door ?
the guy was sitting on the kerb just in front of the door, the woman evidently kneeling before him
i expressed a self-righteous-white-blonde-feminist-woman-with-values "that s classy!"
when i realized
i was drunk as a skunk
dressed as a french maid
with fmb's
i preferred to go home without profering more moral considerations
but still ... i haven t seen that too often in my life

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
It's the worst place in town for that. A friend of mine came to visit and we went there for July 4th, I figured there'd be some hotel lurkers, but good God...if we hadn't brought dates, it would have been awful. And as it is, it's stupidly, horribly, overpriced. They should shut it down, it's a disgrace.

How do you know she was from maggie's
That's make you neither American or French. Well the Brits are pretty good at fornificating in the streets as well.

Boyce--What time were you there? If it was late night I would not be surprised, but if it was 7pm that would be rather shocking.

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
hmmm 4 customers and 25 working girls.. i guess that real customers must have been voting with their feet.
if the prices at this hard rock are anything like the ones in london i can't imagine the girls will be buying too many drinks, maybe market forces will either shut the place or force management to take notice of the problem.

I am surprised and realized that a man of your charisma, when it is about to report on Beijing, isn't aware that HRC is notoriously know in Beijing for "Hookers Rock Cafe". They were pros indeed...

Thanks, no one has ever associated the word "charisma" with me. Yes, I know the place's rep, I just didn't expect that level of aggressiveness...

I guess it was about 10:30 or 11, was doing research along a Rickshaw-Rock n'Roll-Cross Club-Yes-Hard Rock Cafe-Passion-The Den route...

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
research... !!! really? whats to research at these places.. ?
passion is famous as an 'upmarket' KTV of the type where singing is irrelevant, and by all accounts hard rock is known for working girls..
and the den..
well actually i can help you out on your research on that one and let you know that they are showing the footie (Champions league rather than EPL, as it seems to known here) in the small hours of the morning
there are always a few 'ladies' hanging around there that seem a little eager to meet people , but they seem to get roundly ignored when any sports is on.. (only time i am there, cannot comment on there business when there is no sport)
but there does seem to be a theme in your research.. which leaves me with the question, if you are researching (looking for) working girls hang outs, how come you sound so offended when you find what you are looking for ?
If I'm looking for somewhere to watch football, i am not really that upset if they have it on 4 big screens and the sound up.. and if i'm not looking to watch it, i sure wouldn't head to a sports bar and expect a quiet undisturbed drink ....
just a thought

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
Research for my blog - trying to take in some local places and some spots I've never been to (Rock n' Roll, Cross Club, Hard Rock, Passion). Been going to the same places a lot lately - Cheers, Rickshaw, Q Bar, thought I'd mix it up a bit.

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
Hard Rock Cafe isn't THAT bad. It's okay if you go early in the evening. Well, I've only been there once actually, around 6pm for a dinner. They have a decent veggie burger, they played decent music videos.

Re: Hard Rock Cafe
HRC takes a turn for the sleazy right around 10pm. Think of it as the pre-party for Maggies.
It is rather odd that this all takes place at a otherwise respected (using that term loosely) chain restaurant. Imagine some tourist family, getting it a bit late and needing some food--what if they went there at 10:30 for a late dinner? Welcome to Beijing indeed.

Lol thanks for the cliché
I m french and i can assure you american girls are more into *bleep*s than frenchies. We don't get *bleep* in the street, we go f*** in a room ! (yes a creepy student oom with the view on Eiffel tower, for people who likes cliché...)
