Need help in buying dslr!!!
Hi guys, im about to buy my 1st dslr and im thinking between the nikon d80 or olympus e510. Basically im going to use it to take pictures of my 5 and 2 years old nieces. DO i need one with image stabilization cause kids move all the time, is anti dust system a must? i know the olympus e510 has this technology built in the camera but how about the d 80 can it take good photos of kids in motion? i dont want to buy the expensive nikon lense with the I S system cause its too expensive. And i want a low maintenance camera, can u please give me some insights on which one to buy. Thanks in advance!!!

I think a Nikon D40x would be suitable for your needs.
It is smaller and lighter than the D80, cheaper too... but meets all your requirements.

Regarding lenses, Sigma lenses are really quite good, cheaper than the Nikon branded ones. 18-200 is a very versatile range for you, the OS is worth it if you can afford it, but you will do fine without it as well.http//sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all.asp
Also, get at least a 1 gig memory card (the more the better) and an extra battery.
Enjoy, you won't regret it!!

Yep, sigma uses Nikon glass in their lenses I've been told. I've got a couple and they've served me well.
I would recommend getting something like 24-70mm zoom lens. It's an all round purpose lens.
You don't need Image Stabiliser or any of that stuff.
I would recommend you have a look through that site crj recommended. You could also go with a Canon 350 / 400D or get a second hand 10D.
There's not much difference between Canon and Nikon.
As for Olympus...I was sponsored by them a few years ago, they gave me an E1 with all the trimmings - it was the WORST DSLR I have ever used, and only used it for the jobs I had to do and then gave it to a mate. Believe me, Nikon or Canon are the way to go.
p.s. there are two good places to gtet your camera - first by wukesong subway and the second on The Tea Street (Luilichang or something?). PM me if you want directions.

this shop basically has all products from amazon china in English, exactly same price, you order through expatmart, and amazon people deliver it to your door, check it before you pay; and use it a lot in first 7 days, anything wrong with the quality of the product, they will come pick it up and pay you back, honestly! this is amazon china's policy....

Re: Need help in buying dslr!!!
I recommend the Olympus E-510.
The IS-System is quite useful to shoot photos in bad light situations without shifting your ISO settings, which enhances your overall picture quality.
Once you got used to Image Stabilization you really don't want to miss it anymore. And the E-510 has a built in IS, so any lens you use has IS, which makes it uneccesary to buy more expensive IS lens.
Photos of moving kids can be shot with any camera, merely need to higher the shutter speed if possible. So it comes to the lens which should be sensitive to light. Unfortunately the more sensitive , the more expensive.
2 more cameras I recommend to you (but no SLR's) are the Canon G9 and Canon S5 IS. Both should also be very usefull for your needs and offer high quality pictures.
Hope this info is useful to you.

Re: Need help in buying dslr!!!
i've used nikon cameras for more then 5 years now, and would favour it over any other brand any day. I own the D70 (first "payabble dslr form nikon) and it was the best buy of my life...
for the kids: just be sure to get a lens with a high light-intensity. my favourite is the 50mm F1.4 from nikkor, you can practicly shoot in the dark with it - no flash needed
