Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Hi guys,

Where can I find an anti-pollution mask ? Something like a respro mask (http://www.respro.com).

Thanks a lot.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Ive been trying but I really don't think you can find them here which is amazing since we live in one of the most polluted cities on Earth. U just gotta order online. I think there is a supplier in Hong Kong for the respro mask.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

I think mattman183 talks about it in this thread:

take a look,
and i remember seeing another thread about masks,
maybe in the clothing section of this forum

What China really needs:
- Bill Nye, "the Science Guy", to come teach them basic Science.
- Jared Diamond, Dan Brown, and Spencer Wells to teach them about world/human history.
- MLK and Gandhi and Einstein to teach them about what being human means.

Yes, I have read this one but I was looking forward to get it in a shop here in Beijing.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

bump!

i am feeling ill and actually a bit scared after looking out the window

anyone bought a good anti-pollution mask here in Beijing?

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

BUMP

So anybody using one of these in Beijing?

Would they be particularly useful for a foreigner coming to work in Beijing for a couple of months from a country with near rain forest air quality compared to what I've heard Beijing is like?

Thanks

Mei You....

You can order some from Taiwan on taobao.com

That's the only place....

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Walking around in a mask is ridiculous.

Only professional breathing apparatus (with oxygen tanks on your back) could possibly isolate you from the air.

I live and cycle in the thick of the city everyday and suffer no ill effects. Anybody that does, whether psychologically or for real, should just leave.

Yes, I recommend bringing one. It's a nice product and very handy here in Beijing. Especially if you plan to do any strenuous activities outside.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Don't worry about it.

I ran outside everyday around Yu Yuan Tan Park for and hour and I was fine.

No mask.

I did get alot of yeast infections.

But i don't think wearing a breathing mask is going to prevent those.

Good habit, schlepping.

Good food supply with normal exerises is enough for your health.

Never think about the mask.

You can not stay in that position forever.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

I've seen a variety of masks/respirators at B&Q (in the tools section), some of which looked quite serious and up to the task. But they don't look as nice as the Respro and probably aren't as comfortable in semi-permanent use, but it's a start.

i think you can get respros through this site:

I would suggest that it might not be the pollution causing your coughing. Do you still have it?

Some health conditions cause coughing - for example my brother-in-law has times when he is stressed and he has a persistent small irritating tickly cough. Some digestive disorders (or was it heart problems?) sometimes cause coughing I seem to remember too - something to do with a nerve reflex.

Maybe get checked out by your doc first?

To quote H.L. Mencken...
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

hey eighteen, why would you leave a city only because you maybe don't like one aspect of it? Sounds a bit like an over-reaction to me!

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Jesus... a lot of people have a real problem with people wearing masks. Why do you care? The air in Beijing IS incredibly polluted, you like breathing in the air, fine, do so but why get all upset by those who like to keep their lungs clean? Especially those who ride bikes around the city, riding in the traffic is terrible for your health, I think I'll buy one of those masks and use it just to spite the retards getting all bent out of shape...

Re: Can't stop caughing, need a mask...

Post-use dissection of dust filter. I used it for the past two mornings, walking outside. 4 hours total usage time.

I bought these filters for 16 kuai each at Beijing United. They can, for sure, be found cheaper elsewhere and if you buy in bulk.

1. At left: 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8210, N95, New.

At Right: 3M™ Particulate Respirator 8210, N95, after I used it for a total of four hours over two consecutive days in Beijing.

2. Filter cut in half.

3. First outer gauze layer peeled away, exposing main exterior filter.

4. Main exterior filter cut away, showing second layer.

5. Second layer peeled away to show inner layer. Thankfully, looks clean -- so at least the major shmutz didn't make it to my lungs.

CONCLUSION: WEAR A F*ING MASK
