The Kro's nest is just TOO MUCH for me.

I like to be able to actually feel ok after a meal, not feel like I have to waddle home because my stomach is so full and the grease is swirling around my stomach.

In the case of food, bigger is not always better

I prefer the thin style pizzas from Italy, or the deep pan pizzas you get in New York. Beijing can't compare.

Kro's tho, by a country mile. Better toppings, better cheese, better sauce, less belgium people walking around - wins on every front.

The Tree wins hands down. Kro's nest is ok if you miss bread but the laowai staff (including the owner) are annoying and its just not that good. To be honest, the Tree isnt that good either but I just dont like eating bread that much.

Dont get me wrong, I do like bread. Nice bit of toast is always tasty but a slab of bread that pretends to be a pizza is ridiculous.

I think they both have seperate customer bases anyway. There will always be the "high-fiving american" crowd to fill the Kro's Nest. Probably another reason not to go there I guess.

I like Kro's pizza better and am kind of dismayed
that they are not doing slices anymore...

Trees base is bland.., toppings are the same. Nothing wrong with a thin base....but the base at The Tree is about as exciting as toast, but toast is nicer.

Kros toppings don't taste like they spent the last 3 months of their life in air tight packaging at the back of some shelf. and the the whole thing is bigger and messier...the way a pizza should be, the Tree's isn't bad....but the whole affair is a bit too civilized.

Make sure you get the pizza with raisins on it.

I used to live basically beside the Origus in Andingmen, after trying it one time it was very, very easy to never enter that shithole again.

The stuff they serve doesn't even deserve to be called "pizza".

I suppose I must give Kro's Nest another try, Kro himself is nice but I distinctly remember being annoyed by a phony, grinning lao wai idiot waiter/host.

Kro knows how to say hi then move on, this guy was just hovering around our table like a mook, needless to say I was having visions of stabbings dancing through my head.

But Kro's is not like The Tree, where you can go out drinking afterwards.

Like Watson says most times you leave Kro's feeling rather bloated.

I prefer the Kro's Nest, but I agree with the comments about the staff. Way too much attitude and not good service.

I still don't think it's fair to compare the two. The pizza style is completely and it comes down to personal taste. Thin vs. thick crust, simple vs. overloaded.

I've eaten at Kro's twice and I like their wudaokou branch a lot better than the gongti one. It's a completely different atmosphere.
I've also eaten at the Tree a few times and hated their pizza until i tried the 4 cheese there. And Recrudesce is right, they do a mean 4 cheese pizza

so I'll put it as a tie. It just depends on what i'm looking for that day/night

I vote the tree - just cant do the heavy heavy deal. I do like Pizza Buona - really quite cheap and always deliver in under 30mins. And the phone operators understand your order first time 'round - gotta love that. Yum.. pizza...

I thought the Tree was better in terms of quality, but Kro's was a better place for a group, (I've only had the 4 Cheese at the tree, though, which seems to be their strong point from the posts here). In terms of service, I thought both did a pretty good job. The last time I was at Kro's, they screwed up my order (a calzone), and instead brought me a large pizza, (a sloppy "C" and a sloppy "L" look pretty similar, I guess). They both gave me the pizza at the calzone price and also offered to give me a calzone for free as well. As I had an interview and didn't feel all that comfortable carrying around 10 kilos of pizza/calzone, I just satisfied myself with munching 1/3 of the way through the pizza.

Kro's is the Best!

P.s. (western) staff there is really cute too. I don't understand what some people are mumbling here..

Kro's an interesting character. He has his fingers in a lot of pies in Beijing, you know.

I believe he is involved in management and consultation of quite a few restaurants.

He's only in his early twenties too.

And he taught himself Chinese whilst on a short visit here as a teenager.

Though some of the claims he makes himself are a little dubious - such as having been swindled out of over a million dollars in a pizza venture in the US.

I like the way he deals with Worker's Stadium price fixing. They told him mixed drinks had to be 60 RMB so he made them ridiculously strong. They told him he would have to raise drinks prices further so he said "ok" and just forgot to do it.

What was the question again?

Kro's Pizza is disgusting - why do you guys like it?
