what happens with your visa if you lose your passport? UK

An other brits ever losts their passports? What happens with the visa - you don't have to go out and in do you? Anyone? Is there days and days of hanging around PSB offices?

I lost my damn passport. Threw it in a bin at the airport in a waste rubbish bag. IDIOT. I just realised this morning. Called the airport, no luck. Will have to report it tomorrow morning to the embassy.

I'm totally legal, got all the right documents, z visa will begin processing next week, had an F for the next month until that was done. Legally I should be here, I'm just wondering if anyone else(legally here) has had a similar experience.

I was being a little bit cruel. This happened to one of my friends and it was a bit of a nightmare. It was over a year ago and I can't remember exactly what happened but I know that communication between the British embassy and the Chinese side is minimal. Getting a new passport is no problem. Explaining, in the Olympic year, that you lost your visa is, I suspect, going to cause you no end of problems...
