Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Anyone done - or know anyone who's done - the HK/Macau visa run recently (like within the past week or so)?

Have any problems? What visas were available? Were you knocked back? Any agents worth seeking out? Any extra info?

Please, no BS stories about 100 year L-visas or whatever.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

I was down there on the 21st. Got a 6 month multi F visa. I emailed Cordelion the details of what the asked for each visa.

Be warned, the queue is massive!

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

"Down there" being HK or Macau? I'm assuming HK....

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

HK. I PM'd you details.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

I wonder about July. Will it be possible to get one then?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

what sort of documents did you have to get the 6 month f visa?

The form they gave everyone waiting in the queue asked for these docs (word for word)

Quote:
Please make sure you have all the necessary documentation ready, otherwise your application would not be accepted

Basic Requirements
- Passport valid at least 6 months with blank visa page
- Complete Chinese visa application form with 1 photo, white background.

Additional requirements

Visa For Tourism and Transit
-A copy of Chinese hotel booking
-A succession trip airline ticker, or a copy of return flight ticket booking.

Visa for visiting relatives
- Proof of kinship (notarized) for applicants born in foreign nations.
- A copy of return flight ticket booking

Visa for Business and Visit
- Visa Notice Form issued by the relevant Chinese authorities
- A copy of Chinese Hotel Booking.
- A copy of return flight ticket booking.
- Stamped invitation letter from business(s) to be visited or person to be visited.
- Detailed itinerary of towns, provinces and localities to be visited.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Do you really have to show them hotel and flight bookings? I know they said that when i came here from the United States, but they never actually asked me to show them the stuff. If it is true.... anyone know ways to get around it? Would a bus ticket to inner mongolia work?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

from 1st hand experience, yes, you hd to show proof of booking tickets. I got a ticket back to UK.

I guess you could just get a ticket to Mongolia, as long as you are leaving China, that's all they care about .

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

but what about hotels? do i also need hotel bookings?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

you need proof of accommodation in China.

I took my ORIGINAL rental agreement. You can also

- get an invitation letter from friend saying you can stay at their house (you also need a copy of their rental agreement).

- book a hotel room for a night.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Well... if im going to book a hotel room for a night, then i also need to find a girl to share it with... well at least in China that isn't so hard Smile ... haha just kidding.

well here's my deal... im not actually on the lease, but my roommate is chinese and he takes care of the bills and stuff.

Now about this letter.... does it also have to be notarized? Any idea on what to say?

hey man.... by the way i really appreciate you helping me out, visavent. Its good to see all the laowai helping each other out like this in these shitty times in beijing. Ill post up on wednesday when i get back and let everyone know whats up in HK.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Just heard from Hong Kong that 3 double entry L visas are still available and should be valid until after July 1st.

Alex thinks the pizzas at the Tree and the Kro's Nest are rubbish.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Just spoke to someone who just got a 3 month L visa in HK. They can stay all the way through the Olympics to Septmeber. No issues at the border at Shenzhen.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

can anyone give more details about this. I'm considering what my options are as I have an F visa now that will run out in less than one month. I'm told that I have to leave the country(出境).

I'm married to a Chinese and would like to get the spousal L visa. I also really WOULD NOT like to have to go to America. My wife's 8 months pregnant and I don't want to leave for any longer than I must and I also don't want to spend more money than I have to.

Does HK work for this EXACT situation? I would like details from someone who's gone there recently with an F visa looking to change it to an L. I'm from America.

If this doesn't work, should I be able to get an L visa from other asian countries. If I went to Japan could I get one from the Chinese embassy there?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Just go to the psb with your wife and marriage proof and you'll be given a one year multi entry indefinitely renewable L visa. You have no worries it's very easy

Well, it seems that gooldenwedding just did exactly this and was told he needs to leave China! Have you done it? Any hints on how to do it while staying here?

Exactly. Not as easy as everyone has made it out to be.

The problem seems to lie with the F visa. Does anyone have suggestions or real experience with changing an F to an L visa RECENTLY?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

p.s.

Did anyone else feel the tremors?

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

visavent: did you go to the HK office in Wanchai or in Macau?

anyone been there in the last week? not sure that April rules apply to May...

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

harbour road, Wanchai.

No idea if rules have changed, sorry.

when are you planning on making the run? i'm trying to decide whether it would be better to go there or to take a trip to Japan for a week and try there.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

was also thinking that seoul might be an option (cheap flight these days). didn't find any info though.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

I had absolutely no problem changing F to L. United States passport. The thing is, they are (as far as I know) only issued 1 month 1 entry L visas through hong-kong. The person in front of me applied for a 6 month, and he got a 1 (poor bastard haha). He has a house in Shenzhen too, and he is an ABC.

I asked the window lady and she said that they only were issuing 1 month L visas. If you get another one, then maybe its your lucky day, but i wouldn't depend on anybodies advice saying that they got 3 month L visas through HK.

Also, I HEARD that the agents in HK can only do 15 day L. Your best bet is to go to the embassy.

Oh yes, and be prepared to see an argument in the embassy.... i saw 2 or 3 in the hour that i stood in line to pick up my visa.

They DEFINITELY need flight/train/buss tickets (exit-country only) and hotel bookings

And please, be NICE to them Smile It's not those poor people's fault Smile :)

Oh yes... hotel bookings can be fake... you can have a chinese friend hlep you make hotel bookings on a "pay as you arrive" basis.

Travel agents can make fake flight bookings, if u can speak chinese go to a travel agent and they might help you Smile mine saved me 300 RMB because he didn't want the hassle of me refunding the ticket as soon as i got back to HK.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

I should also say i did all of this a week ago.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

at least for me I don't care how long the L visa is because I can change it when I get back to the mainland for a spousal L visa. Just as long as I can get the L in any form I'm happy.

Thanks for the note. I'm planning on flying this sunday and starting on monday. Hopefully out on Tuesday night.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Just got a double entry L visa in Hong Kong yesterday (valid for 3 months, 30 days each entry). Went through Forever Bright, who didn't require flight or hotel bookings. They said they would 'take care' of them for me:

http://www.fbt-chinavisa.com.hk/

Was HK$750 (Australian). Didn't ask about other nationalities but saw they had a stack of Canadian and a few New Zealand passports. Next day service only.

Took the train to Guangzhou today (leaving the exit details on my departure card blank) and had no problems at passport control.

The other agencies I tried (Japan Travel Agency and Shoestring Travel) did require flight and hotel bookings (only for the first 2 nights), but JTA was a little cheaper at HK$600.

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Bah, probably just because your prime minister can speak chinese. Smile Your head of state is called prime minister in australia, right? (stupid question... but better to ask than remain ignorant)

Re: Recent visa runs to HK/Macau

Well, I'm in HK right now. Nothing doing over the weekend, but at least the PSB aren't coming to arrest me. I don't actually have any of the documents (proof of residence or an exit ticket out of China), so hopefully the guys who did SlipShod's visa will be able to help me out...
