Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

It's OK to have an insight, at least on a local level.
This topic should check how much new visa rules are affecting both foreign and Chinese population in Beijing and wider.
Plz, vote :!:

to mods: topic sticky, ok le?

tnx

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

No. My Visa/Hukou is fine, but i more and more want to leave this country before the olympics.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

Why is it mid October? I thought the Olympics are all done and over with in August.

It's better to be nice, kind, generous, friendly, helpful, sexy and rich than to be obnoxious, scary, stinky, stingy, lonely and poor.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

From where do you get the idea that things are going to be back to "normal" in October?

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

Admin is correct about Paralympics.

Also the number of people coming to participate, work, support staff(s), and spectators going to reach into the 10's of thousands for this period and the limited number of Visa's China issue's normally, I am sure it is about not exceeding the imaginary QUOTA.

It sucks for people that have, do and still want to be here whether for the Olympics or not.

I have also heard that the ability to fly out of Beijing (Flights per Day) in this period are not being increased. Making travel arraignments exceedingly difficult.

Smoke and Mirrors, the ability to hide in the shadows of life.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

???

Never had a problem to get a China visa. Go there, pay, come back a week later, that's it. Limited number? Not that I know of (in normal times, that is). OK, admittedly, maybe work visa are different. But compare this to the hassle of getting any European or US visa!

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

I am going back to my Country to apply for the Z Visa...hope it'll be allright since I will have all documents from my Company!

But yes, Libertin is right....try to apply for a damn Italian visa if you are Chinese...and you'll know the real meaning of "troubles". I have given all the possible warranties to the Embassy, but f*** if is still hard!

What China really needs:
- Bill Nye, "the Science Guy", to come teach them basic Science.
- Jared Diamond, Dan Brown, and Spencer Wells to teach them about world/human history.
- MLK and Gandhi and Einstein to teach them about what being human means.

I think I am the only native Beijinger on this board. I am not forced to move out of the city because of the Olympics, but like most of us who have already moved away, I am seriouly considering it under the force of all these Chinese moving to Beijing in loads of loads of loads of loads ...... first are still from the north, now soooooooo many southerners .... squeezing everyone everything out with zero respect, damn it I think Mao had done better!

finally I'd said it out and aloud!

Uhm.. let me ask you one thing:
Do you think that people should live & work all their lives at the same place where are born? Thinking:
Isn't that a bit regressive?

According to the poll results so far, almost 50% of troubled people is such a high rate!! I'm concerned that could be also regressive by itself, for the city and further development in after Olympics period.

damian: the world is changing, almost no where you go you can only find natives.

but people's living satisfaction are not messured only by things you mention for both those troubled here due to specific reasons and those who are not.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

My visa is fine but I'm leaving anyway.

I'll be back in the middle of the madness. Oh well. Poor vacation planning.

At least I'll be missing the opening ceremony. Hooray!

Defoliating a victory garden sure works up an appetite.

f*** 'em.

Ditto. I would have to leave anyways to start my term in London in Oct. but I wouldn't have mined staying over summer, practicing that Chinese, not having to bother with school etc. but just can't be arsed, it's no point going home and then back again with a 30 day visa, nor bothering with cheating agents... all in all I feel that this was for the best, now I have to go home over summer and work there, which will pay well so that I can actually afford London next year. Ugh,, not looking foreward to the price levels...

this because 70% of the chinese in Italy are illegally staying, with fake passports, fake visas, or no visas at all and, as soon as they arrive in Italy, they disappear (most of them have criminal files and they are wanted by the police). According to the police station of my hometown (Prato) there are 3100 "official" chinese, but actually they are more than 25,000 (on a total population of 171,000), all from Wenzhou. All the chinese i know there haven't any regular visa or any passport. That's why the Italian government doesn't release visas easily: they want to stop illegal immigration. And that's why i left my town: it became too dangerous and unsafe. Unfortunately, Italy has too many immigrants, a great deal of them illegal and they are creating lots of problems. 60% of crimes committed in Italy (drug dealing, murders, pronstitution, smuggling...) are done by immigrants. If a "honest" chinese wishes to go to italy, he'd have trouble getting the visa..

Same applies to Germany.
Yo will find Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, and Greek immigrants who came when German economy was short of labour.
Then you have all the war refugees from Afgunnistan to Zimbabwe.
However, in my view ITALIAN IMMIGRANTS pose the biggest threat to publlic order. perhaps it is related to their long standing mafia tradition.
actually, you can never be sure whether an Italian restaurant is just that.
It might as well be a camouflage business facilitating money laundry.
Moreoever, quite often Italians (read:mafia) are involved in fatal shoot outs.
yeah, foreigners are so evil, especially those from Italy, or even worse from Sicily (those are 100% genuine mafia !!!)

besides, the Italians have stolen the world cup from us !!!!

sorry, a little bit off the original topic

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

Interesting "opening to the world" strategy China has today.
Loosing a bunch of educated foreigners and replacing them in the cities by wealthy local Southerns.
I doubt that those people who voted for "leaving China for good" will ever again consider China as a "home" or potential place to live/work. Legal uncertainty might seem to be a too big risk, even in post-Olympic China.
Any other thoughts maybe?

Back in the days, we had Italian immigration to Sweden. Italy was poor and Sweden was rich. Italians got job offers because there was little work force in Sweden. The Italians worked. All of them worked. There was no mafia at all. They were all honest decent people. After a few years, they were offered Swedish citizenship. Some of them stayed in Sweden some of them went back to Italy. No problems at all.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

Whats this mid October crap?

I'll be gone for a few weeks at the end of this month. Thats it.

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

i couldn't vote on this poll since i think i'm in a catagory that's not listed.

the 'i had so many headaches and stress about this over the lat couple months, but finally found a solution'
..i didnt wanna just click the 'my visa is fine'...since it wasn't 'fine' at all, but at last i found a solution so now i'm ok.
..it would present a unfair balance if everyone who spent the last couple months freakin' out only to finally manage some shady way of handling it clicked 'im fine'

but i like this thread, i seriously wish i could see stats of how many people were forced to leave due to visa concerns. out of my small group (4 foreigner including me) 3 of them had to leave. now we were all teachers or the like, so i'm sure businessmen, most of their friends were able to stay.

Since it's rude to say bad words here. My statement is clear-
we foreigners are bleeding to death! The Visa is so EXPENSIVE. Also the agencies are not trustworthy whether legal or illegal migrants it's difficult to find rest in this land.
Who knows OLYMPIC MIGHT NOT COME? or THE FOOT AND MOUTH WILL SPREAD IN CHINA SO THIS WILL BE A VISA FREE COUNTRY JUST WHAT HAPPENED TO HONG KONG A FEW YEARS BACK Laughing
or maybe the OLYMPIC ORGANIZERS WILL FOR THE FIRST TIME VOTE OUT TO CANCELLED THE BEIJING SUMMER OLYMPIC FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND.
or Just maybe this is a better a idea-OLYMPIC is ONLY FOR THE CHINESE PEOPLE AND NOT FOR THE WHOLE WORLD... imagine the PROVINCES OF CHINA will compete for GOLD or like SHENZHEN versus SHANGHAI or SHANGHAI versus HARBIN..They don't NEED FOREIGN PEOPLE SINCE THEY ARE COUNTLESS IN POPULATION. i already said my goodbye to china last OCTOBER 2007.
Because I know this would SURELY COME! CHINA IS CHINA and it's changes SO MANY TIMES in idea, history and policies!
BELIEVE ME THIS WILL BE ERASED BY THE CHINESE......( you know who you are)!

You'd better have a feeling of inferiority by this, could you please explaining a lit bit about why others can got the visa not you????
This is a serious problem. It is not only the living period problem, but it is also the moral quality,it shows that your moral quality is low.
I believe that the entire foreigners shall face the same situation like you, but most of them will met it. please find yourself out in this.
When the things happened to you,for a example, you got the visa for you stay against the trues, absolutely your heart will crying out to you:"Do not take the thing that do not belong to you".If you said to yourself:"I have a good fortune",so you should spend lots of time to reflect on your own thoughts
you, small guy!!

Re: Leaving China/Beijing Because of the New Visa/Hukou Rules

Something fishy is going on.

In the past week I was asked to fill in a form for all non-Chinese people working here for the university I'm working at, with details of my passport number, address etc. Then I asked why, the reply was it was to ensure that foreigners are "safe" and treated well for the games.

Oddly enough works holidays are in the same period as the games and I'm still wondering how they are going to keep me safe when I'm not at work.
