where to go diving in september in asia?
hi, i'm planing to go diving in asia (malaysia, thailand, vietnam, philippines or indonesia) in september for about 4-6 weeks.
i would like to avoid the rainy season and if possible also see some sharks during my dives.
i've been to koh tao (thailand) a few years ago, there where just to many tourists and more divers below the water then fish, so any other advice?.

The good thing about the Philippines is that there are SO MANY islands to choose from. And when there is bad weather in one part of the country, you can always head off to another. I went diving in Puerto Galera which is a real "divers resort" but there were a lot of great dive sites.

thank you for the link.
i've been to philippines last year during the rainy season and we always managed to escape the real bad weather.

Book a flight from Beijing - Shenzhen. Then fly with AirAsia (www.airasia.com) to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia then take a connecting flight to Tawau (either with Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia) and travel by land to a coastal town of Semporna.
Charter a speed boat from Semporna to Mabul, Mataking or Sipadan island - dubbed as one of the best diving spots in the world.
Getting there is half the fun.

My uncle who lives in Coron, Palawan said the best time to go there is October as the sea is calmer. They have good ship wrecks there and other dive sites. It's 11 hours by ferry which departs Friday night and arrive early Saturday morning.
Well as Watson said, you can always go to a different side when the weather is rough.
My dad said Malapascua Island in Cebu is good. I was supposed to go there with him last February but the weather didn't agree with my plans.

That time last year I headed to Mongolia to dive in a big lake there for a week and a half. Also, been out to Koh Samui and Koh Tao, bt it is a bit busy and seems to be pretty noddy diving. Similans is supposed be great, but check the weather, but I reckon the Philippines is the place to go. I am planning on going in October to Coron for a week of wreck diving, but in th emeantime will be in PG next month, and may try to head to Subic bay csometime between now and then.
You could always jump on a plane to New Zealand, which would be my favourite, but A little chilly until Nov, Dec

where is PG ?
i would also like to stay at one place for a longer time, renting a house for few weeks would be great.
a friend of mine gave me this link, www.phanganisland.com , anybody have some similar links like this, in an area where you can also have great diving ?
i've been to this area and didn't really like the diving there.

PG is Puerta Galera. I'm just trying places country by country, last year was Malaysia and Thailand, this year it'll be the Philippines. I have just had enough of holiday diving and getting sick of seeing fishies, so now starting to look for some more satisfying dives, so hopefully Philippines will do it for me

Hi what would you recommand in october? I'm far from being tired of seeing fishes, so I'd love to know the spots (big fish??) and an easy way to get there for one week starting from Beijing!
Thanks, enjoy Philippines

Re: where to go diving in september in asia?
how about heading down to phuket and jumping on a livaboard for a week or so of the time, head up to the similans or the Mergui Achipelago..
if your a fan of decent drift diving then Richelieu Rock has some great currents, or if sharks are your thing you have some large(ish) nurse sharks around some of the sites too.

Re: where to go diving in september in asia?
Trigger,
With Thailand, October is the switchover season, where Koh Samui starts to tail off and Phuket side gets good. I didd the end of the season in Samui in Oct, then the early season in Phuket the begining of November. The monsoon or whatever switches sides, of the peninsular. I am off to Coron Bay on October myself.
I'd check out Sabah as mentioned above. Kingdom travel do good packages from Beijing, and this would fit in the with the October holiday.

I didn't think the people were ugly there and they were very hospitable. But if you don't like "those people" because of their dark skin...........
