Qingdao International Beer Festival

Has anyone gone to this? How is it? Is it easy to get to from Beijing? I'm very new and just read about it on the internet, seems cool, any thoughts?

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

It's cool, easy to get to. Fly or train to Qingdao, book hotels in advance though

Who died and made you king of the zombies?

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

I will be going and I am excited. Have not been there before but I hear it is a great place for foreigner to essentially drink for free all day as the Chinese drunks are very generous and want to have a beer with you.

Stopping at third base adds no more runs than striking out.

Been there 2006. It was pretty fun, I think I flew there but don't remember. Anyway we didn't book a hotel room in advance and arrived the day before the festival - was pretty easy to book a room. As for the festival itself, there were tons of games, tons of beer, tons of people, tons of beer, tons of foreigners, tons of beer, etc....

I actually remember buying one of those mini kegs and attempting to drink it by myself after I'd had about 8 cups of the good stuff - passed out on the bench with the keg next to me... woke up some time later and just kept on drinking!

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

I found those Sept - Oct dates on www.thatsqingdao.com website also but on another website www.chineseeye.com it gives dates in august, just wanted to make sure that the dates posted on this thread are correct... so i wanted to see if you got them from somewhere more official i guess??

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

I have been a number of times.

It's....an experience.

Don't expect too much, but worse case scenario is you enjoy a great town, almost unique for its architecture in China, and chill on the not-so-bad-at-all beaches.

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

The dates I got came from thatsqingdao.com but I am not sure what an official site would be. I think you we are better off waiting until the event gets closer for more official, precise times and locations.

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

thatsqingdao.com is not the most reliable website. I used to know the guy that runs it & he's a bit of a flake. For good info on qingdao check out myredstar.com.
I think the festival is held in August every year. I've been once and thought it was pretty dissapointing. We drank a couple of luke warm beers, watched a lame show and saw a lot of very drunk middle-aged chinese men. To be fair, we went on the last day of the festival when things were wrapping up.

hanging out with Chinese drunks all day, that sounds just fantastic. any way I can just kill myself now?

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

a friend and i are going for a weekend during the festival from bj, probabely around Sep. 26th. i am not really into beer but since he is desperate for free beers.

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

It's moved to september 'because of the olympics'.

I was looking into this the other day and fancied it. Those who have been before, is it just Chinese or Asian beers or world beers you can sample?

ouch!

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

Sounds like raincity has some personal issues.

I have found ThatsQingdao.com to be more accurate about events in Qingdao than most other websites (including myRedSTAR).

CCTV even used listings from ThatsQingdao.com for their Qingdao 2008 Olympic City Guide.

The information I found on ThatsQingdao.com was accurate in regards to the 2008 Qingdao Beer Festival. I saved a bundle by booking my airline tickets early.

Although the Beer Festival may be overrated, I still had a great time!

~Cheers

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

some friends went there and they did not find what they were looking for. Granted they were looking for lots of young drunk people so if you're looking for middle aged chinese men then it's the place to go. otherwise you can skip it and you won't feel the least bit bad about it D Oh

Where's the ska at?

4chan.org, the a-hole of the internet.

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival

yes its easy to get fly or train but i think you must travel with your car that is very must for getting the whole enjoyment and for the proper working if the auto parts should guarantee

Re: Qingdao International Beer Festival
