The owner is a pretty nice guy too.
Big, bearded wanker who humiliates his staff in public all the time? Should have a look at BiteaPita personal and how the cringe when he's around..
Good food tho.

I also really like that place, have been there many times, have met the owner and talked with the staff
i don't know what you're talking about....
What China really needs:
- Bill Nye, "the Science Guy", to come teach them basic Science.
- Jared Diamond, Dan Brown, and Spencer Wells to teach them about world/human history.
- MLK and Gandhi and Einstein to teach them about what being human means.

anyway, its his wifes place as far as I know.
Both of them have always been lovely to me, and the staff always seem fairly happy.

I went to the market today and it was pretty interesting, lots of odd stuff. On a side note I went into Biteapitta today and hadn't actually read the forum comments before that. But I bought a couple of pieces of baklava as a snack and the sign in front of them said they were 8rmb, but when I went to pay they were 15rmb. I paid without thinking but then realised I had been overcharged according to the price there, so just said something to the nearest staff member who happened to be the boss guy in question. He went a bit mental at the chinese waitress because she had put the wrong price sign in front of the food. He just looked at her and then picked up the sign and threw it on the floor then tried to humiliate her by talking to her like a child and demanding she go refund me the money. Sure she made a mistake, but it was even more awkward for me seeing this guy go off on it over something quite minor. I was happy to pay the normal price as after all that is what it should have been on their menu. Just thought it was strange then reading this thread and seeing it had been mentioned before.

Bumping this.
I've been to Biteapitta enough times now to reasonably say that I believe the claims of maltreatment of staff in several threads are bollox.
I live within 5 mins of this place and I go there at least once a week.
Healthy, fresh, tasty food and lovely staff.
The owners are never anything but lovely and the staff are always glad to see me.
Thank you.

YES!! When I was there he was dressing down two or three staff members in front of everyone. Seeing that kind of sh*t makes me not want to go back there, even though the food was good. However, his targets were laughing when he wasn't looking - obviously they're used to it.

I was there for dinner a fortnight ago and the bearded owner (I guess) was very visibly berating two or three members of his staff off-and-on over about a 45 minute period at the end of the evening. I think he was shitfaced. Good days and bad days, eh.....
The shitkicker staff were REALLY warm and friendly, though. Very pleasant indeed.

Damn.....am I missing the wrong meetings or something?
Still haven't seen this.
And considering the quality of service in some places here its amazing you don't have beat people over the head to get service like in Biteapita.
Anyone here worked in a restaurant before?
Some of you probably own restaurants for gods sake.
Until I get a detailed description of exactly what counts as 'humiliation' I'm not changing my stance.
Being a waiter isn't easy in any country, one of the reasons I always respect them.

and by that I mean, that some of the best places have the most "take-no-sh*t" bosses on earth

Re: (comments on BiteAPitta split from another topic)
The guy wasn't yelling at them - just complaining and obviously telling them off in front of diners. Like I said earlier, I reckon they were used to it because they were grinning when he wasn't looking. Judging by the looks on their faces, the staff's response was very "Right, boss. Whatever you say, boss. Three bags full, boss," if you know what I mean. Perhaps the guy's wife wears the pants and they don't respect him much.

Sure. But you don't act the Hitler in the dining room. That's unprofessional.

The wife is the owner.
He is a business man, its possible he's letting his negotiating style take over when he's there or something.

Dunno. All I can say is that I didn't like what I saw from him. I'll be back, though. The staff really were awesome. Best I've seen in China in terms of warmth and friendliness.

Cant really say anything against that. Totally right in every respect.
Anyone who has worked in the service industry knows this....again... I think maybe he's letting his own business sense interfere.

i've never seen any raised voices in there either
Probably lost in translation.
What you heard the boss telling his staff:
What he actually said:

Unacceptable. He didn't say please.
But seriously, the guy wasn't Gordon Ramsey. It was still a bit ugly, though.
