Neostrata Skin Care etc

hello,
This is my first post!!!! Tongue

Am moving to Beijing next week and have been reading through lots of post...

Am hoping someone can help me with a few questions.

Can you purchase the following hair & beauty product real brands in Beijing:

Neostrata
Dermalogica
Avene - think someone said yes
Megan Gale - invisible Zinc
Aveda Shampoos
Bumble & Bumble

Many Thanks in advance

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

Aveda shampoo is AWESOME.

I like the subtle minty smell.

But I have never seen it in China.

Same with Bumble and Bumble

I may be wrong though.

I know you didn't ask but you can't find John Frieda Frizz Ease or any other John Frieda products here either.

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

Oh crapola, thats no good....

I heard there is a Sephora in Beijing. Has anyone been?
Sephora tends to carry all the awesome brands.

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

There are two sephora's in Beijing that I know of.

One at Xizhimen and one at Guo Mao.

They carry about 75 percent less of the products in your normal Sephora.

They basically have all of the perfumes of a normal Sephora but only 25 percent of the normal products.

Also keep in mind that neon eye make up is popular here, finding your shade and your brand can be difficult.

But their are Clinques at most shopping centers, they always have a reliable makeup counter with good eyeshadows.

Beijing ain't New York, nor is it Shanghai. You might have to adjust your expectations a bit.

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

I think i found a solution...

In my other post i wrote about strawberrynet.

This is a great website i use to buy most of my skincare, haircare etc.

Just got a reply from them that i can still order through them (through the english site) and have it delivered to Beijing!

My only question is - what is the postal system like in Beijing?

Unfortunately, as far as I know, you won't be able to get cosmetics/skin care products delivered to you in China. My experience is that they don't let them through customs here (several online shops actually exclude China from their delivery zones).

Best is to go to Hong Kong every once in a while (if you can) to load up on the beauty products and such... so much more choice in HK, and for 20-40% less than whatever is available in Beijing.

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

Seriously, go to Hong Kong every once in a while and stock up.

Like Coffeeandtea said, this is Beijing so don't expect much. You will be lucky if the person standing next to you on the subway has even washed their face or combed their hair. much less used product....

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

http://www.neostrata.com/

I used to buy it, at a department store in Xidan. I forgot the name of it, but it is located just north west subway exit, on the west side of the road across from the Bank of China. It is like a maze in the department store but beyond the cosmetic section and other goods for the female consumers there is a section of skin care products and one of them is Neostrata. I am sure there are other department stores that sell it too. It is sold beside the L'Roche-Posay.

It is quite expensive but worth it. Actually, most imported stuff, of quality is expensive, compared to what you would pay in the respective home country.

I always shop at home or have my family send me stuff.

Also, check the ingredients. Some skin care products are loaded with chemicals we just don't need. Some use a little others use a lot. You can tell by checking where it is located on the list of ingredients. Usually, how they are listed from first to last also reflect the amount of the ingredient is contained in the product. One thing to look for are parabens, which are preservatives. For example, lip balm, Kiehl's #1 has two types of parabens, while FANCL lip balm (stick) and (gel) do not. Most of what I read about parabens is related to allerigic reactions. Other sources, suggest that they can be related to cancer, but conflicting information (especially on the net) makes it confusing. (I am sure there are worse ingredients in cheaper products which haven't built a strong reputation among loyal consumers)

Just remember anything in moderation can be safe, but remember that skin products and cosmetics have parabens in them so depending how much often you use them and the number of products you use moderation might be difficult.

Just a thought.

For men, I recommend Anthony Logistics for Men. Sadly, I am not sure if it is imported here in China, even though some of their products are sold on Sophora's website. http://www.anthony.com/store/catalog/brand/1/

Also, try Kiehl's products, store located in Dawang (though I haven't been there myself).

Re: Neostrata Skin Care etc

I definitely agree with that last comment. That is why I usually have my family ship the stuff I use from home. However, I would imagine that the Kiehl's store located at Dawang will not cheat you, well except for the price (due to tariffs and being considered a luxury brand). Some shops definitely carry the fake stuff, and the imitations.

Sephora is a good place, and so is Watsons, when it comes to picking up reliable and genuine products.

I am not sure where else in Beijing you can truly be sure that it is genuine stuff.

And yes, it is your skin so better to be sure as best you can.

Online shopping, I would trust amazon.com. I don't think Kiehl's or other skin care brands ship internationally. Though I am not sure, maybe they do.
