yeah but like when you use it for the bus or subway, the lasts for seemingly epochs.... without needing to be refilled
if you used it for two long cab rides, yuo'd get about 2 swipes out of 100 kuai,
and that's annoying
i'm sticking with da cash
What China really needs:
- Bill Nye, "the Science Guy", to come teach them basic Science.
- Jared Diamond, Dan Brown, and Spencer Wells to teach them about world/human history.
- MLK and Gandhi and Einstein to teach them about what being human means.

first time I tried I got a very discouraging '太麻烦' something..
I guess 'card swipe' doesn't buy 白酒 like good old cash, so seems to me it's doomed to failure.

I've tried this morning, very cool and convenient actually, made me feel like I didn't pay anything...
And the cabby was sooo nice and patient, answered all my weird questions, even showed me the new change on the invoice.

I asked a driver and he said only cabs with that sticker (with the picture of the IC card) can accept it, but I think the majority should have it. Nonetheless, you should have enough cash for cabs on you at all times cause so much of this place is still cash oriented.

I tried today and my cabbie seemed really scared - said he never tried it before and refused to try again when it didn't work out at first. Is it actually sufficient to swipe the card in front of the thing or do you need to insert it in the slot?
Unlike in Shanghai, I think the machine doesn't tell you how much money you still have on the card - and I also think the cabbie doesn't get a satisfactory confirmation of the booking, so they're afraid they might lose money.

I never used it, but my logic says you just swipe it. That's how it works on the subway, and there's no information tape on the back like a credit card. I think the taxi driver was worried because if it DOESN'T work, he won't know if he got paid or not. Legitimate concern I suppose.

each time I tried until now, they refused it, all of them had the sticker on front.
explanation is that's they get to see the money after a while, the process is 'mafan' and with a possible cut from the company.
only good point is that after they refused it, they can't refuse a big 100
