I heard from the public that the motocycle was runing toooo fast and didnt see the minibus who want crossing the road he didnt have plates and i think no license also,so for the police no matter what happen the rider was wrong.
That s very sad for him and his family they just put his body in a bag,the mini bus driver just fill some paper and let it go.

Re: Accident

poor guy. I saw a man killed in harbin last week, same thing, on a motorbike, hit by a taxi, literally splattered on the road, they had to scrape him of the road, blood guts and brains everywhere. Such a stupid waste of life but still people drive like idiots.

op is right, think about that before you get a scooter and zoom around in your shades and no helmet. it's not worth it.

So it's a fatality ? f-ing drive with some respect for yourself and the others.

Re: Accident

I've been driving in China for awhile and you can NEVER take anything for granted.

It is amazing to me to see people on motorcycles, cars and trucks just cruise into the right of way without so much as a glance to the left. WTF, do they think, "If I don't see you, then you're not there?"

Re: Accident

Thank youjuana for your reply
but if u are not agree u dont reply
Have people who care about this
Because that s not happen in front of you so u dont know
That can happen to anyone with electric bike, pedestrian
Anyway Thank you

Re: Accident

I have been riding a motorcycle in Beijing for about a year now. It is crazy what I see people do.

Cars never look when they merge into you, Pedestrians never move out of the way, and bicyclists never watch for lights. Chinese and expat drivers alike.

I know of quite of few expats who ride bikes in Beijing, only a few I know that would ride with proper protective gear.

I would not even ride my bike without a helmet, glove and back protector at home, and the drivers and pedestrians are more "civilized".

Don't forget, 10 years ago, 85% of the drivers here was still riding their bicycles!

Pretty much sums it up...

Re: Accident

Would it have been different if the bus driver was instead a foreigner (with all required docs and Chinese licence) driving a car, and the motorcyclist (no lincence or plates) was Chinese? Would the foreigner just fill in some form and continue on his way?

Re: Accident

I have been driving my bicycle, motorbike and car for over three years now in China, and I must say that I have never seen a country where a persons life in traffic is of so little value. I can almost write a book on the crazy things you see people doing on the streets.

People don't look, don't anticipate, don't care. The government is trying to show people how dangerous their behavior is (with very macabre video's and pictures... just walk in to one of the traffic police stations....) but without any result. They are also part of the problem, taking the way they indicate road works or how their own people (all the a-holes with the white and red licenses) behave.

I think all the chinese need to be a witness of some bad accident, or someone in their close friends/family must have one before they learn. And that means that there will be many many accidents before the traffic here gets any safer.

Qingdao is pretty cool. If you like Qingdao.....

Re: Accident

Well, I have been told that in some accidents, it would be cheaper if you just kill the guy out right by running over them again.

It will cost you 200k to kill a guy and might cost millions if you don't. I can't believe that they put a price on human life.

Who knows? That is a question with no answer. However, I know I have been waved off by policemen at random roadblocks as either a courtesy to foreigners or because i would have caused a mountain of paperwork IN ENGLISH. And that has been done in other countries as well.

It all a crapshoot and perhaps a bit of karma for good measure.

Do as the Chinese and learn to fly low just under the radar and have a simple peaceful life!

Re: Accident

Oh my God--I passed the man and the accident just after it happened--I was in a taxi, and we were going through the intersection--I thought he was okay, because I saw him moving . . . I feel like a c**t for not having stopped.

As a former motorcycle defensive driving instructor, let me just say: hogwash.

Studies have shown that Ambulances, with extremely annoying and piercing sirens pointed forward in the direction of travel, are nearly impossible to hear over 45kph or so.

So, those big loud unmuffled pipes that are mostly buzzing out at very low, easily muted frequencies BEHIND the motorcycle? they're not telling anybody you're coming. they're telling people you WERE there, and in the most annoying way possible.

Proper training, safety gear, and lack of impairment saves lives.

Re: Accident

All the videos in the world wont change the behavior on the roads. There is no consequence for your behavior here. In the two years I have lived in Beijing I have only once witnessed an actual traffic stop for violating traffic laws. The rest of the time I see teams of police standing on street corners as drivers, cyclist and pedestrians do whatever reckless thing that pleases them just meters away without intervention. Until they actually enforce a law they will never be followed. This is not just true of traffic laws, China has many laws on the books that go without enforcement. That's how you get melamine in your milk and eggs.

Re: Accident

Hey, steady on there! I saw several cars pulled over for violating the odd/even licence plate restrictions during the olympic period...

(big frickin deal)

Hehe...and ThatsBlow got clotheslined by some enterprising gendarme for driving without a valid plate. But I agree that for the most part traffic laws are mostly ignored with little enforcement.

Cheers,

Re: Accident

Chinese drivers are more suited to using horses and carts and drive like that's what they've got. They are a menace. As a previous poster said "Take nothing for granted"

There's a reason why they are pointed in the direction of travel, of course.

I have been building and riding custom Harleys for decades (not here). I do believe that loud pipes can help prevent some idiot from backing out of their driveway without looking and giving you the dreaded T-bone. Also great when passing, since it is easy to be briefly in the rearview blindspot. They are also good for setting off car alarms, but that's another thing.

Can't disagree with a word of your last sentence.
