Cupping and Acupuncture

I see people walking around all the time with cupping marks on various parts of their bodies, but what does it really do??

Also is it really true that acupuncture can really help you lose weight?? I have read various claims, but have yet to meet a person who can vouch for these results. I know that you still have to work really hard at it at the gym, but would it help?

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I do the cupping stuff, sometimes, it can help you to get rid of the Han Qi/ oe Shi Qi inside of your body.

And yeah, I've heard a lot about that acupuncture thing as well, and I believe it. Never done that tho. But I know someone who lost weight by having massages.

Maybe other people can give some opinions?

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

Massages?? really.... sounds interesting could you perhaps give me a few more details about that??

Wedding is in 6 months and want to start losing that last little bit now!

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

ahh.... losing or gaining weight is often a response to an emotional issue. Most of us have lots of issues around food (food=love, food=security, food=comfort, food=reward).

I feel that the only way to permanently be able to eat better is to address these food issues and of course other basic issues too. I am still working on it, by the way!

To quote H.L. Mencken...
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I've had the cupping done a little while ago. Had sore shoulders due to working in front of computer and aircon blasting directly over me shoulders. Don't know if it was the massage beforehand or the cupping, but the next day did feel better.

Yes, yes, I do the same.

And for that losing weight thing, I don't know if I can explain clearly in English.

You know it's just like doing exercise, move all parts of your body in order to burn the fat in it. That's why sometimes, you will feel get warm after massages. And it also can accelerate the speed of metabolism.

What's more is there are 324 Xue Wei on human being' body, like the pic below

Massages is also about giving massage to those xue weis...

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I've had acupuncture about 7 or 8 times. On only two of these occasions has it lived up to it's reputation.

As i, in my limited understanding, comprehend it, the purpose is to balance qi (energy). And when it's done well it's amazing. I may sound a little esoteric here but on one occasion i actually felt qi moving flowing in my arms and shoulders. As a practitioner of chen tai chi i know how hard it is to generate and move qi, so i totally appreciated acupunctures effects.

I know it may sound like a ridiculously painful experience but during my other positive experience i actually felt so relaxed i drifted into a extremely deep and relaxing sleep! in fact, if it's done correctly, the pain should be minimal.

If you can find a good practitioner, go for it!

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I have not done accupuncture, but I can personally vouch for the cupping. I had horrible facial skin and had about 8 cupping treatments completed over 3 months. The cupping helped to smooth the rough surface and removed oil. Of course I was also using cleaners at the same time but I had been doing that for at least a year and saw no results until the cupping. It is hard to explain, but I almost saw results of better skin each night when I got home after the cupping. Over time, the residual effects would get better and better so that at the end of the cupping session in three months my skin had a remarkable difference. What you need to be sure of is finding a doctor and facility that is sterile and clean. That is really important. Just look with your own eyes and if it's not right, then leave.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I did accupuncuture 2 years ago and lost 6 kilograms in one month. You don't have to do exercise but have to be on diet.(especially on the first three days, you could only take some vegetables and fruits) accupunture helps you not feel hungry without enough calorie. It was not a pleasant experience but I was happy to be slimmer and still staying up the same weight right now and the most important is that it corrected my eating habit. Worth trying.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

If you want to lose weight you've got to do at least one hour excercise three times a week, if your not sweating you are not going to lose weight, swimming is boring. Treadmill is even more boring, rowing machine is horrible, spinning is pretty awful too. They all work. Circuit training or general fitness training as part of a group is not so lonely.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

There are some different protocols used here for acupuncture for losing weight that often use acupuncture in the abdominal area combined with electic stimulation of the needles. I am not too familiar with their success rate though. At the very least, like one poster mentioned, it can help you to be calmer and reduce some of the cravings. Back in the U.S, I would often use ear acupuncture to treat people for various addictions such as smoking, etc. and the same simple treatment seems to be helpful for reducing cravings for food as well. I realize that some say the evidence is mixed and I can not cite a clinical trial that would satisfy an M.D back home, but I feel it is a helpful addition to a program. There are no magic solutions of course.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

used to do cupping for the super strong fire inside my body, was pretty good. but never did in summer though. marks....
tried acupuncture too, didn't enjoy it, painful...

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

my knee is giving me some problems and my doctor back home couldn't find anything with conventional medicine, but said that if i am going to china, i might as well try acupuncture. can any one recommend a place or an acupuncture practitioner that knows at least some english? thanks

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

Mystery knee pain usually boils down to inflammation. You might try treating that with some over the counter naproxen, ibuprofen, or aspirin. Your diet can also promote inflammation. Some quick tips here:

My guy doesn't speak English at all so I can't help you on the accupunture front. But you might try the above first.

Good luck!

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

i have tried all of the above and i also did some phisiotherapy (that's how u say it?) back home. the knee pain comes and goes but i still do some excersice my doctor gave me to make the muscles in the knee area stronger. but i thought maybe acupuncture could help and my doctor recommended to try it... thanks anyways though.
if anyone does learn about a good acupuncture practitioner that speaks some english (because to my understanding the treatment is not just telling them where it hurts, but it's more comprehensive...) i would appreciate it!

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

Not everyone is the same! A friend of mine tried cupping and was left red colored (rosacea like) reddish mark that didn't go away. Some doctor had to laser them away with the tattoo CO2 laser- and they never completely disappeared. Cupping has been around for thousands of years, and village doctors still do it in Africa. But there is a reason why it didn't catch on in areas where people have light (European) skin.

Eh... In northern Europe we do have a tradition of cupping. And it is also done in a way that it includes bloodshedding.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

I must say great website. I have just googled it nice info out there.

Re: Cupping and Acupuncture

Cupping is known to open the "Meridians" of the body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the flow of "qi" travels throughout the body in channels called Meridians. These are the conduits through which energy flows to every part of the body. Illness results when the qi is blocked at certain points or is not flowing properly throughout the body.

Cupping Massage opens these Meridians in the body. The stagnated and out of balanced qi can be restored by exerting suction and pressure resulting in invigorating energy flowing throughout the body. Cupping can also be used when qi needs to be drawn to the surface of the body from deep within to nourish muscles and the skin.

Hope this helped. For more information on Cupping, you may visit http://SpaAndFacialCareCenter.blogspot.com
