Need Hong Kong hotel/advise

Hi,

I am currently sitting in a rather over priced hotel in Korea still fighting back the tears that they cannot get me a visa here! I have a flight to beijing on friday (but no visa) Is it possible for me to visalessly go from beijing to hong kong? If so when I am there, does anybody know a decently priced hotel I can stay in? Would be until maybe the next wednesday, decently asin not 700RMB+ a night my pocket book is already planing to commit suicde over korea and an extra flight, it can't take a beating in hong kong too! Sad

Any info great

From older posts:

I stayed at "Chunking House" in Chunking Mansions, its in the A block on the 4th and 5th floors(tel 2366 5362). The room was 250 HKD per night and is much nicer than alot of the other rooms in the "Mansions".

Ended up staying a night at a Las Vegas Hostel in Chung King Mansions (got charged 320hkd a night for a private double room since everything else was fully booked)

Re: Need Hong Kong hotel/advise

i survived chongqing mansions the day i arrived in asia all blonde and alone, i m sure u can do it too

the building is crap, there s a indian subcontinent shopping mall downstairs where you can change all the money in the world, buy all the mobiles in the world and wear all the fake rolexes in the world on a bollywood sound

but the hostels can be decent, and they re cheaaaaap

the location is unbeatable too, nathan road, on a subway exit (tsim sha tsui), just in front of the sheraton (for the irony) and 2 mins away from hk cultural centre and the bay

Re: Need Hong Kong hotel/advise

Search the lonely planet thorn tree forum, lots of good info on there about budget "guesthouses" hostels and the like. Also this page http://chaskemp.googlepages.com/hongkongguide (googlepages currently blocked in china) has some good info. Check tripadvisor, hostels.com, hotelscombined.com (good for lots of cities) for more info or to book ahead. i will be there soon and have booked at the well regarded dragon hostel located in Sincere House in Mongkok (240hkd) for the first night, only because i'm coming in very late. I might stay on an island or somewhere else the other nights and for those in the city I will do what others recommend, which is taking an elevator to the top of Chunking or Mirador Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui or Sincere in Mongkok and working my way down the floors looking at the various hostels/guesthouses til i find a decent room at the right price.
