Beijing By Foot

Got the new Immersion Guide product - Beijing By Foot today, have heard a lot about this book in last couple of months. Finally got the chance to take a look at details.

Nice design, the style is beyond unconventional, the whole book is like 40 interesting cards about 40 walks that explore the city – through unique hutong alleyways, traditional courtyard homes and princely estates; traversing picturesque lakes, parks, temples, pagodas, mosques and more.

Great map work as well.

Re: Beijing By Foot

yes, bought it a few days after it was available. did a couple of walks.
it is for sure a beautiful idea and nicely realized but in my opinion a bit too pricey, especially when compared to other immersion guides which are equally good.

I love walking aimlessly through Beijing, so a lot of the walks are not really new to me, but even then the cards are able to give new ideas, infos about these areas and some interesting "sights" on the way. A few areas are completely new too me and i appreciated to venture into new territory.

Some of the walks seem to be put in the package just to inflate it and there are some other minor things which could be better and made it really worth the money e.g. using the same scale for the forbidden city maps. (maybe i am too pedantic? but those details really get me haha)
