Any reliable info about visas in HK ?

Hi,

I need to get a F visa, because I will be studying here for 6 months (for the moment I only have a L visa).
I called several agencies in Hong Kong, found on FXZL (thanks cœurdelion), each of them gave me a different answer :

  • Forever Bright Trading : 6 months single entry
  • R'N'B Travel : 2 months, double entry
  • Japan Travel Agency : only L
  • Shoestring travel : 6 months double entry
  • Asia Pacific travel : 2 months double entry

Which one am I supposed to trust? Can they all get what they say? I don't really care if I only get a 2 months visa as long as I can renew it after, but I really need a double entry one.

Has anyone been in a similar situation recently?

Thanks

For studying you should get a student visa. (X visa I think).

If you're studying in a university or better recognised private schools, they should be able to give you an official letter to apply for an F visa, and you wouldn't need to go through agents.

Re: Any reliable info about visas in HK ?

Well I heard this a number of times now - students that only stay for six months are not granted X visas and residence permits anymore but are instead given single entry 180 day F visas now. I don't know if this applies to all universities in all cities, but it's a pretty tough situation for the students that are affected!

If you hear of anyone that has been granted an X visa although he's not staying for all full year let us know!

Well, my university (Tsinghua) told me today that it's very hard to get a F visa in China (although serveral employees of the PSB told me today there'd be no problem), and that they'll help me apply for a residence permit (X visa) here in Beijing, so I'll tell you if it works (if not I think I should definitely kill somebody to calm me down).

Re: Any reliable info about visas in HK ?

Why would you prefer an visa to an X visa? An X visa grants you access to your residence permit (= multiple entry visa), while if you study on a business visa you'll need to explain why surely more than once during your time in China.

Of course, residence permit would be a lot better. But like you I'd been told that I couldn't get one if studying here only for 6 months. Even the university told me to apply for an F visa. Now they changed their mind.
So, I'll have a go at the X visa, if it works I'll be very happy. If not I'll go to HK, maybe to the embassy, maybe to FBT, and apply for whatever I can.

By the way, thank you all for your answers.

I see. Interesting that even Tsinghua will advise you to apply for an F visa! Funny times we live in.

Let us know how it works out!

Finally got the residence permit. The process went very smoothly, but what really sucks is that they only gave me a 5 months permit (until the end of my semester). They could've at least given me a few weeks more.
