Extending L Visa in Beijing

I'll be extending my tourist visa in Beijing for the first time in a couple of days. Does anyone know if there's been a change as to the documents required for extensions?
Last I checked, they needed my photos, application form, bank statement of at least RMB 21,000, temporary registration slip and original passport with at least one blank visa page. Any help or insights would be much appreciated.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Correct - still the same as far as I know.

More information and the PSB extension brochure for download here: http://fxzl.blogspot.com/2008/06/where-can-i-extend-my-visa-in-beijing.h...

Note that you'll probably need to provide a bank statement from a Chinese account in your name.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Thanks. Will go tomorrow and update everyone:)

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Went there today. Wasn't able to get 30 days. Got 10 days instead. No idea why.
So, will have to go again after 10 days to get 2nd extension. Hopefully will get 30 days then.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

10 days? Did you bring a bank statement?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Yes I did and the balance was more than RMB 21K.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Wow, 10 days is harsh. May I ask what country you are from?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

The 21 K has to be in a chinese bank account in your name and be locked for a period of at least 30 days. Statement is not enough... Went this morning, took 10 minutes, got 30 days.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

You got 30days? I am holding a Malaysian passport. Is that the reason I got 10 days instead of 30??

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

By the way, I just extended my L for 30 days and I had 21000RMB in the bank locked for ONE WEEK. You dont have to keep it in there for 30 days! It's hard enough to gather and freeze the funds for 7 days.

Good luck to you and me. I have to go through this again next week.

I hope this visa stuff gets easier and doesn't stay the same. I paid 4 months rent assuming that the rules will ease up.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

I was there this morning and the lady behind counter said L visas can only be extended once and for 10 days. I decided not to extend today since mine is up only on the 5th. Will wait till the 5th. Does anyone know if this is across the board or does it go by nationality>

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Hi, I'm rather new to this thing as I've always been having a Z Visa and arranged by my company. But now my family member is coming to BJ and staying with me for 2 months. The embassy where she's located will only issue a 30-day single entry L visa. She plan to come on Sep 13 and leave on Nov 4, and the ticket is issued as such. Question is, those of you who managed to get an extension, are your visas the same type, that is 30-day single entry visa issued in your home country? So does that mean that my family member will be able to extend her visa in Beijing for another 30 days near the time of visa expiry which is Oct 12, for as long as she can provide all those docs that you all mentioned?

Due to the nationality, she would not be able to get a new 30-day visa in HK.

ABout the air ticket, does it have to be a 30-day period from departure to return dates when applying for the visa, and then later change the return date to a later one? Or can she just submit the air ticket for Sep 13 and returning Nov 4 and still be granted a 30-day Visa?

Also, since it would be Oct 12 when initial visa expire, which means that rules could have been relaxed by then, do you presume that it would be easier to get an extension? 15 or 30 days extension will be fine with her.

Thanks much for the info.

The act of not making a choice is a choice in itself.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Can the 21K be in any bank? I heard it had to be Bank of China. What do you mean by locked in? Is this something the bank is doing or does it simply mean you are maintaining a 21K balance for 30 days?
Has anyone been turned down for not meeting the "lock in" period?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Hi,

Has anyone else tried and only got 10 days? Is this a "new thing" or are they just unlucky or from a particular country/region? I need to get my visa extended for a further 30 days on the 20'th and could also go to another area to be sure of 30 but would rather do it in beijing. I have a british passport and will have 21k rmb in a chinese account, the last time I did this I just had a stamped bank print out and didn't freeze any funds.

Cheers

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

I would place a very wild guess and say visitors from western countries will have less troubles than those from previous visa hassle countries (those that also cannot apply for a tourist visa in Hong Kong):

Afghanistan / Algeria / Bangladesh / Congo / Egypt / Gambia / Ghana / Guinea / India / Indonesia / Iran / Iraq / Kaiakhstan / Kirghiziani / Libya / Malaysia / Mali / Mauritania / Monaco / Nepal / Nigeria / Pakistan / Philippines / Saudi Arabia / Sierra Leone / South Africa / Sri Lanka / Sudan / Syrian / Tajikistan / Tunisia / Turkey / Uzbekistan

Then again, this is just a guess.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

I need to extend my Business visa (type F?). Does that work the same as extending the L Visa? Can I go to a PSB or do I need to go to some other place?

Basically, I want to get a Work Visa and Permit and the company I will work for is helping me do that, but I need to go back to the USA to complete the process. My hopes are that I can extend my current visa (which expires in about 2 weeks) long enough to make it until November (when I already plan to go back for a couple weeks). So, it would work out if I could extend my current visa for 30 days (two times).

Any thoughts???

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Extending an F visa is a bit more complicated because the visa relies on the invitation of your company. You need to get a new invitation letter from them (same as the one you originally used to get your visa) and try again, but getting those letters is pretty tough at the moment.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Getting an invitation letter is easy - I already work for this company in China (it is an american company, but they have a registered entity here in China). What does this invitation letter need to say?

So, should I try that (extend my F visa) OR is it easier/possible for me to change my visa to an L visa?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

An invitation letter needs to be chopped by an official authority - that's the not so easy part. Here's how your company can apply for one for you:

To my understanding, you cannot change from F to L without leaving China. The easiest solution would be to go to HK and get a new tourist visa.

It might also be possible to extend your F visa with the help of an agency. Ask user beijingleeo about it.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Is proof of a flight out of China needed for L visa extensions?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

It wasn't when I extended a past visa into August, wwwidget.

Has anyone else only got 10 days or less than 30 recently? I am thinking about using a service for the extension but maybe it is waste of money (only if they get me 30 when I might get 10 it would be good...)

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

so ... what about extending an F visa without leaving beijing? my company is now planing to send me to hongkong but am wondering if there are other options.

I know Beijingleeo can extend F visa for up to six months - you should get in touch with him.

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

To those who had their L visa extended for only 10 days:

Was the visa extension you were issued also an L visa, or did it have a *STAR* symbol.

I have heard of people being issued *STAR* visas that allow them 10 days to leave the country. This might have something to do with the fact that your visa was denied, but by the time it was returned to you, your original L visa had expired. In this case, the 10 day visa may be a notice that you must leave the country immediately.

Just a guess...

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Is the bank account requirement currently in all of china or just in beijing?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

It doesn't seem to be required outside of Beijing. Here's what you need to have a visa renewed in Shanghai: http://www.chinatravel.net/forum/Shanghai-How-to-Renew-and-Extend-your-C...

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

Does anybody know how much does the extending of L-Visa cost in Beijing?

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

It depends on your nationality. The price can be found in thr PSB leaflet which I've hosted here: http://www.fileqube.com/shared/wUlSKQicV46413

Re: Extending L Visa in Beijing

I successfully applied for a visa and got the temporary page. (Eventually applied in chengdu)

However, the paper says "Do not leave chengdu before collecting your passport". Does anyone know if this is a reminder that i need to collect my password from there or is it an actual law, and hostels from outside chengdu will not allow me to check in?

Maybe i have to stay in sachuan? etc...
