Satellite pay TV

Hi,

It has been a couple of weeks I am looking at a way to receive international channels in my apartment.
The only way, from what I discovered, is to install a satellite dish in my balcony, purchase the decoder and the card.

I saw couple of package offers in the classified to subscribe StarTV satellite package. Sounds interesting.

I have been quoted 3500RMB for installation, decoder, card and "maintenance". I just have one question: is the card is a legal one or is it copied ?

I'm pretty sure it's a pirated card.

We had a really bad experience with hbocn.com (guys name was Don) We ended up paying for one year subscription which only worked for 3 months. When asked for help, we were told it was something we had done. Eventually, they came and found a problem with the dish but then a week later it broke again and were told the government needed us to pay more money to get it working as regulations had changed! We gave up in the end after many phone calls and emails. Interestingly, it is not legal to have a home dish I believe but many houses around us have them and we have never heard of any problems!

All of the satellite dishes you see are pirated, but most places don't care much because they realize there are not many other alternatives for foreign people to see english tv (although better complexes have their own legal ones).

I have had many, and they are fine most of the time. I have a local guy who supplies the cards when necessary-although sometimes you have to update and he usually charges 100 for a new card. You can get the whole system for around 1800, no need to pay more than that. You must be able to face southeast, or you are out of luck.

There are plenty of guys who do this who are reliable enough. I have the phone number of one if you can't find one.

i ordered dream tv from www.hbocn.com last year, only pay rmb3800, my satellite box is black and the brand is homecast, it is very good, i didn't meet any problem until now, i hear that hbocn is a reliable dealer, it is free to repair tv equipments if you used their services. so some friends of mine have getten it from hbocn, i am a foreign student and from Belgium.
