I am working on bringing over some cars from the US like a second hand mini cooper, mustang GT and BMW X6. I anybody interested to buy these when they reach China? Just want to know if there would be a market for them here before I ship them.
Very expensive..almost impossible..we wanted to bring our Lexus from home and we were quickly discouraged when we found out what the taxes would be to bring it into China.
Isn't there a way to bring a car over here from the States tax free? That's what I've been told but have yet to actually read the rules or regulations that say this.

if you are a diplomat you can do this. otherwise, no
how can you do that? i read on internet says the new law of car importing in china since Jan. this year can only allow new cars, it means no used cars.
i want to import a car to china, how can i do that? some people says if u have a foreign expert license you can import cars without taxes, and can ship to tianjin port.
is that easy? but there are many other post online says different things. which is the truth?
The days of importing used cars or having it be tax-free are over, with the possible exception of being a diplomat... and then you have to take it back with you. Flat out that simple.
If you want to import a new car, you will have to go through a licensed importer, which is most likely going to be a dealer who is willing to help you.
thought i'd jump in here as i occassionaly do when the subject breaches something I'm familiar with.
~ Yes, I've checked into all of this because I liked the idea of importing older rice rockets from japan like the skyline, evo, etc... and although i hesitate to use the word 'impossible'.. well it basically is when it comes to importing used cars... I checked with salesmen at used car dealerships in beijing as well as an agency and even with a company who does this down in guangdong..
..If you're a foreigner on a working (z) visa for at least 1 year you can import a new car tax free. Wonderful news for those expat CEO's who wanna buy a new benz and can get it half the price of buying it in China.. but that's the only way a foreigner can get a car into china tax free...again, must be new, the owner on a working visa, and they can only do this once.
..As the guy in guangdong said, you might be able to get away with importing a vehicle that's 1 year old, 2 at the max, but only if it was a ferrarri, lambo, bentley, or something of that stature.. So that's that. No importing a subaru wrx impreza for me!
Oh ya, GraciousHost,
have you actually looked into doing this or was it just some random thought you had and posted right away?
Cause if you have a way to import used cars then you must have some mad guanxi at the port of Tianjin! I'd certainly be willing to work out a deal to get in on this if you can help me import used cars!
