Moving companies - who do you recommend, who should I avoid?
Hi,
we are moving not far, but I have a large number of paintings, fine glassware and a lot of camera equipment. I have seen the pitiful efforts of some companies here.
I want to get a top-class moving company, and I am prepared to pay for the peace of mind.
Who do you recommend? Who did a lousy job?
Cheers,
Paul.

Can you borrow/rent a car or breadvan for moving your valuables? While the movers themselves are usually fairly careful (especially if you tell them which boxes contain fragile goods), but with the trucks they use and the condition of some of the roads here your belongings may be in for a rough ride.
A local moving company with a decent reputation is 兄弟 (xiong di), but I wouldn't call it top-class. You might want to check if there are any foreign-operated moving companies.

japanese companies are the best - but in china they outsource - but you can try santa fe and black cat (kuro nekko?). been a while since i shifted so can't remember the name of the japanese partner company in beijing.
I shifted my entire household from japan with only a broken teaspout and a few other smaller things. Not bad since we also shifted our crystal display case!
