Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

Start off the weekend right with brunch at blue frog! Every Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm.

Did you know we have seven venues in Shanghai, two in Beijing, and one in Macao? Check out our other venues.

Yeah, the food is nice but you need to get more organized... service was poor when I went this past Sunday and no one was writing down names for the tables outside. Lots of unhappy people.

Whatever

This place is a dump. Frozen french fries, service charge (but no staff speak English), inaccessible... Lots of other much better burger places nearby.

thanks for the honest reviews guys, i was thinking of going there to try it out, but have changed my mind now.

restaurants evolve. i'd give it a try and make the call for yourself.

hmmn.... no.. not willing to risk it just yet... i'll wait for more forum reviews as this place sounds really expensive for what you get.

Restaurants evolve? into what?

Poor service, over-priced food, average quality - save your pennies...

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

oftentimes restaurants have "soft openings" and things aren't quite right at first.

They learn from experience and adjust menus/service/style/etc

of course i mean the smart ones will do that

the dumb ones will just die off

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

ahh... sorry, not a fan of soft-openings.. never even heard of it until I came to China.
You are either open or not open - do we apply the same standards to other businesses? Does you accountant mess up your finances and then say sorry because he has just opened? BS.
And if my memory serves me correctly, the prices at Blue Frog were not lowered for a "soft opening" - the whole idea is just an excuse and a cop-out. Open if you are ready to be open. Close if you are not.
I refuse to pay for someone's training - and what's more Blue Frog has been open in Shanghai for YEARS. Plenty of time to sort out what works and what doesn't.
Like I said - over priced, under-delivered.

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

there should be an official rule that if restaurants have a "soft-opening" they should have "soft-prices" to go along with it.
I've heard "soft-opening" used as an excuse way way too often in this city to find it believable anymore! I used to get excited about them and saw them as a great opportunity to try a place and meet the folks behind it... no more....

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

I must also say, the same goes for Element Fresh - a lot of hype about nothing (apart from expensive food that never comes out at the same time as the person you are dining with - or all three courses come at once, the poor service and the average coffee)

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

And I add to them also the Herbal Cafe'...repeating my review and those of others....A relevant part of the menu was not accessible when I went there....

Soft openings are BS unless as BADR says, there also soft prices

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

I waited for a long time for a drink at Herbal Cafe' and they forgot my food. After reminding them I ordered food they took another ten minutes to bring it out. Simple desert style dish too, something that would have been sitting pre-made in the cooler. Not bothering to go back again.

Sometimes the same is different, but mostly, it's the same.

Hi gerryt,

Thanks for your feedback. We actually don't have a service charge -- never have and never will. It's just not part of what we do.

We do train our staff in English, but appreciate your feedback on that point. If there is anything we can do to make it up to you, then please let me know. We'd love to hear your detailed feedback. My email is amber@kabbsh.com.

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

I can confirm the lack of usable English. I gave up and ordered in Chinese. Service was a bit slow for a relatively uncrowded place (late Monday afternoon) and the prices were a bit high. The burger was OK. Good for Beijing...average for those of us from burger inhaling countries. The decor was very Tongli-ish (no surprise since it's across the street). I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars too. Not really worth going back...

Cheers,

Re: Weekend Frunch at blue frog, 10 am to 4 pm

If I were Blue Frog or any other mid- to high-end restaurant in Beijing, I'd be doing two things right now, given the economy and the dining out trend indicated in this poll:

http://www.thebeijinger.com/forum/2008/11/17/Are-you-spending-less-on-di...

1. Price: Discounts, specials, two-for-ones, etc
2. Promotion: promote the hell out of it.

People are still dining out, but they are dining out less frequently. It's going to be a scramble to fight for customers' "share of mouth"

the difficulty for places that are established and have high price points is that people are going to cut them out of their routine based on perceptions of price -- ie they've got it in their head that its expensive and therefore won't even go to check it out.

therefore offer price discounts and make sure everyone knows about them.
