What's the difference between "Seeing someone" and "Dating someone"?

What is the difference between "Seeing someone" and "Dating someone"? Is "Seeing" more serious than Dating? Does "Seeing" mean "Exclusive"? Or "Exclusive" only happens when you are bf&gf? Is this in order, "Dating>Seeing>Exclusive(bf&gf)"?

Merci.

Re: What's the difference between "Seeing someone" and ...

It's all semantics which are defined differently according to each and every person's social constructs. I think if you are searching for exclusivity, then you should ask for it (or rather, ask for where you stand in the relationship in regards to this matter).

Logically speaking, a relationship should progress from being open and inclusive of all possibilities to one of exclusive nature with one person. But then again, this is not the norm everywhere, nor is it the only possibility. Indeed I know of many people who go from such an exclusive 1-1 state to an open polygamous relationship. Such sexual practice, whilst being frowned on upon in some societies is common in others. Depends on what floats your boat really.

In any case, relationship exclusivity is all about communication. If you make your framework clear from the beginning, then you won't get hurt in the long run.

Words have a spirit of their own, watch out they they don't come back to haunt you.

Seeing: don't hold hands or kiss (aka thinking about "dating").
Dating: intimacy beyond friendship.

Re: What's the difference between "Seeing someone" and ...

From Yahoo:
Going out together - sounds to me the most serious of all, to me it means exclusive one on one

Dating someone - Means that there is more one on one dates and romantic evenings

Seeing someone - One step away from dating

Hooking up - Sex, sex and more sex than next morning leaving with "I'll call ya"

Agree to the article: make it clear - single or involved. Then the partner knows exactly the actual status.

All other "words", such as seeing, dating, going out, sounds like temporarily involvements with a person, which can be restricted to sex or having fun together, or testing before getting involved.

so there are only 2 stages, 1. dating, seeing, hook up, involved, or whatever phrases, which all can mean inclusive. and 2. exclusive (if you call seeing/dating/involved/whatever as exclusive, that's your style, and it differs from culture and people and norm)

What, are you asking? You don't know? Seriously? Wait, are you Chinese?

I don't know the difference really, but this thread reminded me of sth. a friend once said that cracked me up. A mutual female friend was whining about her guy not wanting to get married.
She said, "We've been seeing each other on and off for two years!"
Friend: "To a guy, that means: When I have a buzz on, I'd like to see you with your clothes off."
I've never been able to hear someone use that expression since without laughing.

I know this is off topic but it's funny.

My Mother told me this. My Mother for god sake. She said that the difference between romance for a man and a woman was, for a woman it was kind words, flowers, candy, a special dinner and plenty of long lasting foreplay. For a man it was come to my house bring food get naked.

Dating is a form of human courtship consisting of social activities done by two persons with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship or as a spouse. While the term has several senses, it usually refers to the act of meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed upon social activity in public, together, as a couple.

Seeing someone is texting them drunk at 11:30 saying "what are you up to" then heading to their place for sloppy monkey sex and waking up the next day then leaving before traffic gets heavy.

Dating them means you have to stay for breakfast Sad

Look forward to working with you.

Hi

dating is when you are exploring your choices, so is seeing and in relationship means you have decided to be together for real! no seeing other people anymore.

Re: What's the difference between "Seeing someone" and ...

i think there's a difference.
i had dating as my status here for awhile because that's what i am currently doing: dating! i'm not sleeping with anyone or making commitments, i am hanging out, having fun, and stealing kisses here and there.

99% of the men that emailed me had a problem with that status because it seems most people equate dating with being in a relationship/"seeing someone". well... it's not!!!
