how to learn chinese?

there may be many ways to study chinese:
1.go to a university
2.language exchange
3.look for a private tutor
the best way i think is to find a private tutor to teach you,but you would pay to him or her.

it is not a good way to go to university to study language, there will be a lot of students in the class.

10 years ago ,i began to learn english ,until now,my speaking english is not so well.

i hope to find a foreign friends so that we can communicat with each other,we can both improve our language too.

MAKE FRIENDS WITH EVERY ONE ALL OVER THE WORLD

Re: how to learn chinese?

If your goal is to actually speak and use Chinese, stay away from the universities. They only teach you to cram for the HSK test. Most of the teachers are not fluent in a second language and therefore they don't really understand the process of language acquisition. They've been trained to teach to the test and they do not welcome any deviations from the lesson plan. I'm in a high-level class and most of my classmates speak crap Chinese, though they can write pointless, long-winded essays all day long. With the prices they charge, you'd be better off getting a private teacher, maybe even together with a couple of other people.

Re: how to learn chinese?

learning a new language well is not easy.

I have been learning english many year, now I can read very well, but not speaking and listening.

Maybe there is a lack of environment where I can keep listening and using my english.

If you are in China and wants to learn chinease. That will be so easy. You have the environment.

AND I can be helpful in your chinease-learning.

Re: how to learn chinese?

Indeed, learning a new language is not easy. Without showing off, i speak several languages. I learned that the best way to obtain new language skills is via speaking with other people, preferable a native speaker. Here is a resource that can be helpfull to find a language exchange partner : Study Chinese

It may sound ridiculous, but try to find books for children with pictures and words for a start.

Re: how to learn chinese?

The best way to learn a foreign language is reading and listening on a comprehensible level. Speaking you can do when there is a need to speak. Start with childrens books or short stories. Chinese has of course the additional difficulty of characters, so you need reading material with not too many different characters. For that the "Chinese Breeze" books are very good. They have short stories with only 300 different characters. That is a number also an absolute beginner can manage in a short time! Plus a MP3 CD.

Language exchange is useless. J & W's English is poor, why? because they have no interest in the language beyond just the learning. Their now level should be good enough to read books they are interested in because of real interest and not because of need-to-study-more-more-more.

You have an interest? Then just do that, but in the target language.... Forget about learning and specially any boring learning books.

Re: how to learn chinese?

i think u r chinese.so do i .i want to improve my english, now, i can express my oral english, but writing and reading is not very good ,how can i do ?

Re: how to learn chinese?

writing and reading is easy. stay here post, get the sh*t taken out of you sometimes, but then you get a western culture lesson for free, too.

in a more serious way, reading, well books or magazines about stuff that interests you are always a good thing. if those are to hard, go for kids tales or stuff the like.
writing, well, it will improve a bit slower than your reading, but it will improve by reading a lot, too. writing essays and handing them to somebody who is a native speaker or at least really good works, too. another method is copying passages out of books.

seeks average"
