Paul's Steak and Eggs is terrible, and the waiter is really weird

Ok, I know Steak and Eggs has been around for a while, and there are probably a lot of comments about how bad it is already. However, I went there once 4 years ago just to have a cake, it wasn't good. I went back again recently just to give it another try, and I was really surprised about how terrible the food was. On their wall, there are all of these newspaper articles about how it feels just like home and blah blah blah... but actually this restaurant in every way is the equivalence of Chengdu Xiaochi (the really shitty Sichuan chain restaurant). The food is terrible, the environment is messy, dirty and smoky, and the waiter,I mean, he might be a nice person and all, but just really weird.
I hope thebeijinger takes it off its recommended restaurants list, and stop misguiding people.

I really don't think it falls into the category of restaurant review. I think it was a rant.

Paul's has been around awhile, and the waiter/owner Paul is a bit of an odd ball. When it first opened it was kind of special, at that time I believe only Grandma's offered a similar home style North American meal. The city has changed a lot in the last five years, but at Paul's time stand's still. It is one of the few places in Beijing I can go and it is still 2003. The food might be sub par at best, the service awful, and environment depressing, but for me it holds a special nostalgia.

b.s., the service is great. You've just got to learn not to treat waitresses like sh*t. Food's good for the price.
god, there's some miserable c*nts in Beijing. You're not in New York, get over yourselves. You should be grateful that there are restaurants around like S&E

Agreed. The food is what it is. Diner food is just that, not sure what you are expecting. I've always had fine service, again shouldn't be expecting that much. It may be that the staff is tired of waiting on whiny foreigners all day.
