chinese dishes

I kind of get bored ordering always the same 3-4 dishes over and over again every day.

so i thought maybe some people can just post what dishes they eat on a day to day basis. dishes you can find in every "average" chinese restaurant.

Including pinyin/hanzi and a small description

picture would be good too but thats harder to find somethimes.

i will start ofcourse, i usually eat a xian shanxi provice restaurant.

i really like

NIU/YANG ROU PAO MO

羊肉泡馍

Yang Rou Pao Mo is mutton soup with flat bread pieces in it.

At the table, you garnish it with chopped fresh coriander, sweet pickled salted garlic cloves and a chile sauce, which are presented in separate bowls. Caraway seed may also be served.

The soup's popularity centres in Xi'an City in Shanxi Province.

Second dish from that place which i love:

肉夹馍 ROU JIA MOU

Its basically the local version of a hamburger with yang rou. amazing stuff.

Another all time favorite:

木须肉 MU XU ROU

Mushrooms with egg and pork. somethimes slices of cucumber.
Warning: somethimes AMAZING. somethimes totally disgusting. depends on the restaurant....
For germans easy to remember: MuschiROU ....

for the meat eathers:

铁板牛肉 TIE BAN NIU ROU

Niu rou with a good sauce and somethimes a lot of onions...

Good side dishes in any occasion:

酸辣土豆丝 TU DOU SI

sliced slightly spicy potatos. i really love it.

then of course the famous

西红柿炒鸡蛋 XI HONG SHI CHAO JI DAN

stirred egg with tomatoes. good chef will add sugar making the whole tast yummy !

Derek Vinyard: Thats it! Now say good night.

bwahahahahhahaha my thoughts exactly....great intro to Chinese cuisine! Consumed by the megaton at internet cafes across the country

Re: chinese dishes

Zhiqing is correct, too - that egg and tomato concoction looks foul. A friend of mine refers to all of the kinds of Chinese food pictured above as slime. "You wanna grab dinner?" "Sure, as long as we're not eating slime"

Re: chinese dishes

These are all dishes from fast food stalls ventured by migrant workers. The fact that laowai only stick to these places is the butt of jokes among Chinese. Why is it that expats never venture into classy Chinese restaurants nor have any idea what Chinese cuisine is after years of living here? Sorry for sounding so critical.

Classy food for most expats equates to a well-made burger, pizza, pasta, steak, sandwich, not even a handful count before another rotation starting with the burger. As someone familiar with both Western and Chinese cuisine, I have to say the former is the more lacking, no variety, sterile, bland.

Try some bullfrog for gods' sakes. It tastes like some sort of chicken from heaven. You'll thank me once you've tried, trust me for real, because I thought it disgusting before I tried it.

For the ignorant amongst us, don't knock it 'til you tried it.

I like to play with robots and I have a small Jiji Wang..

Re: chinese dishes

I have eaten those bullfrogs a few times, in Shanghai and Guangzhou. It's good, but not "chicken from heaven" good (whatever that is supposed to mean). I think the bones ruined it a bit for me.

I found out when I was in Xiamen that here is such a thing as a Kangshifu restaurant. Silly

Slicing techniques are valued in the cuisine and utilized to enhance the flavor, aroma and texture of seafood and other foods. Fujian cuisine is often served in a broth or soup, with cooking techniques including braising, stewing, steaming and boiling.
