Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

Can I use my Bank of China ATM/debit card to withdraw money from banks in the USA?

Re: Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

in most of atm in the us can accept chinese debit card, you just find a atm wih sign of China Unionpay. or use it in most of Citibank's ATM.

http://en.chinaunionpay.com/englobalization/enus/en_usa/file_2769456.htm...

you can call them for more info too.

Re: Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

If your card has a little China Union Pay symbol on it, you should be able to use it at various stores (and possibly banks) in the US. See here for more details.

I've withdrawn money from my Chinese account in both Europe and Australia without a pb - the fees and exchange rates are much better than those charged on o/s credit cards.

Yes you can, expect to be raped in Service fees, ATM fees, and exchange fees (not to mention the exhange rate wont be the same as you get from the bank). Be aware, even if you have USD in a Chinese bank they deduct you withdrawl in RMB!

I used an ICBC card at an atm in the US a few months ago, no fees except what the atm charged me. You need to find one with a discover card logo though, Union Pay and Discover have an agreement with each other.

Re: Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

I don't have BoC, but on my last trip to the US I found that my Chinese-issued HSBC and ICBC UnionPay-logo cards worked at any retailer where the Pulse debit network was supported. This is owned by Discover, with whom Union Pay has an agreement. See http://www.pulsenetwork.com/ for more details.

The interesting thing here is that, just as in Japan, I didn't get charged any interchange fee for doing this (there is up to a 3% hit when taking money out of an ATM). I just got the normal interbank exchange rate (the same one as for wiring money and electronic transactions, better than the cash rate) and the money was deducted from my RMB account. Costco even allowed me to get cash back, which was really nice (although only up to $60 each transaction).

There are some challenges. I couldn't pay at the pump for gas, and some retailers in the US can't handle 6-digit PINs. You probably won't want to rely only on your Chinese bank account to keep you afloat when you travel. Sure, ATMs work, but the fees will eat you alive - something like $5 per transaction plus 3%.

I think it may also legal to use the china bank and some other banks ATM card fees, to the U.S banks. The Fed has been due to set the limit on how much banks can charge in swipe fees since last year. The Federal Reserve just announced the charges will now be limited to 21 cents for every transaction. The financial institution has also delayed enforcement of the rule until October, when merchants will pay fifty percent of what they must now. I read this here: Federal Reserve sets swipe fee cap, delays implementation.

I used my mastercard (prepaid) and it got blocked after I used it once by ny bank. The said the did not trust the withdrawal from China. i was lucky to be with a couple of friend s who had enough money on them so I could borrow.

Why didn't you just go to a Chinese bank while you were in New York. You can find them in many places around the city, especially in Manhatten and all of the Asian communities.

Re: Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

You can use your Chinese ATM card with Union pay logo at any citibank ATM or at any atm with plus , polar or star logo.

Re: Can use Bank of China atm/debit card in USA?

Yes you can....You may use your Bank of America ATM card at China Construction Bank (CCB) with NO FEES. Bank of America has a reciprocal agreement with CCB that can save you quite a bit of money in ATM charges.

CCB has a 20,000 yuan (US$3,000) daily ATM withdrawal limit, but you will never get near that figure because Bank of America's limit is US$500.

Each transaction at CCB has a maximum of 1,000 yuan (US$150). So you need to do multiple transactions to reach your US$500 daily limit from Bank of America.

The question was can you use your BANK OF CHINA card in an ATM in the U.S., not if you can use your Bank of America card in China!
