Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

There are many shops around.

I know a guy who has a guitar shop, but they are not genuine guitars. Fake Jackson's, etc.

If you want to find some good shops, you should go to 新街口 (xin jie kou)。

Of course, there are some crappy shops there also. There is a really good shop with 100% genuine stuff. James Hetfield and Richard Z ESP's, and so on. Sorry, I forgot the name of the shop.

I would suggest start out from 西单 (xi dan). find a place called Joy City. Then walk North. After you pass a large intersection, there will be many music shops, all the way to 积水潭 (ji shui tan).

hope this helps.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

As baekaeli said, the best place to get guitars and related equipment is Xin Jie Kou.

Take the subway (line 2) to Ji Shui Tan. Exit the subway at exit B, the southeast exit, and walk south. After roughly 3/4 kilometer you'll come to a place where every shop around is a guitar shop.

Make sure to check out many stores. Some are really good but a lot are just as crappy as the random guitar stores around beijing.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Hi,

I'm currently in Beijing and would love to know the contact details of your friend with the replica guitar shop and location, I'm keen to buy a Les Paul or SG look alike that I can modify myself to include a Wah Wah pedal like Matt Bellamy from Muse and to cannibalize an original with my level of technical skill would be sacrilege.

Thanks

Al

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

This is the Line 6 Variax 600. With the turn of a knob, it can sound EXACTLY like a Les Paul, a Gibson ED335, a Strat or Tele...plus acoustic guitars and the ability to design your own settings. Want to get the sound Hendrix had on Purple Haze? It's got that, plus anything else you can think of. Great action, too.

I paid about $850 for this two years ago and it is in absolutely perfect condition. I've got two other guitars and don't really need this one...but if you are only going to have one, this is the one to have.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Looks like a nice Axe and I have some pretty cool ones of my own, seven in total, but I am really excited about modifying my own so I can play some awesome intros like these

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Hello to everybody!

I'll be in BJ the next 2 weeks and read about that xin jie kou is the place to have a look for guitars and music stuff.

Could anybody tell me exact names and addresses of shops that keep genuine E-Guitars in stock?

I just had a look to g**gle m*ps and found out about ""Step up to Music Heaven" store near to Temple of Heaven and "HengYun Music Instruments" in South street.

Are there any others to recommend?

Thanks in advance!!

Good advice. Now that line 4 is running, it's probably faster to take it to Xinjiekou station, then head East from the station to the end of the street and turn right.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Thought I'd share my experiences in buying a couple of acoustics recently. I can't tell you exactly where to go with contact info, but I can tell you where not to go.

There's a smattering of instrument shops South of Hepingmen subway station owned by the same guy, and he and his staff are straight up cheats. Avoid the area. I don't know if he has shops elsewhere, or if he would use the same name, but the one I found him at had "Tianshi Music" on the business card.

Also, be careful of the Chinese brand 'Legpap'. They build laminates to look convincingly like solid tops, which help the (sadly numerous) dishonest shopkeepers screw people. They aren't badly constructed for cheap guitars, but they aren't sold as cheap guitars.

I had pretty good luck in Xinjiekou, but you still need to keep your eyes open. I had shopkeepers presenting laminates to me as solid tops there, in addition to the usual skin tax.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

how much should a really cheap classical guitar cost? also planning on buying a ukelele

i was in jishuitan and walked like 1km or so to find the shops.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

A cheap but not too bad classical guitar should be about 600 RMB. Ukulele Is around 500 RMB.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Hey

I wanted to know if you know any guitar shops that sell gibson es 335. Im looking for fake ones that sound good and look good...
Around 2000RMB

peace

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

yes, as others said Xinjiekou is full with guitar shops, if u take the subway to Xinjiekou station, exit B (line 4), follow the road to the left, then turn right when u reach the end (about 3-5 minutes), and a bit further you will start to see one after the other...

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

can I also buy a pipa in xinjiekou? Do you know how much more or less should I pay? Starting price in the silk market was 450 kuai.

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

Re: GUITAR SHOPS IN BEIJING

As usual I stand by the point that if you buy a musical instrument or equipment, get something half decent by a well known brand. YAMAHA is an excellent point of reference and they make very little if anything at all that isn't musically useful.

Liulichang is a great place for picking up trad instruments plus yukeleles etc.. not the touristy oldy worldy part but the main road going north south, its lined with music shops.
