Where can I purchase cooking ingrediants and a hand-hold mixer?

I have tried my best to purchase cooking ingrediants, like pepper, cinneman, black olive, blueberry, etc in BJ, but it seemed that they are not available here or way expensive.

I bought bread at the local wal-mart but it wasnt tast that good. So could anyone out there sugges where can I have a hand-hold mixer?

Thank you!

JK

Mixer at wal mart

That is great if they really have hand mixers at Walmart. I have been wanting to buy one for quite some time.

I've never seen those handheld mixers at Walmart, but I know for sure they can be bought at Meixinfang, a tiny little store near Sanyuanqiao that is specialized in baking materials and equipment.

Here's their website (sorry, Chinese only)
http://www.bakeclub.com/

Unless they have moved, the store is a bit hard to find. It's located inside a normal apartment in a residential area.

The Chinese name of what you are looking for is probably
手提式打蛋机.

If your Chinese is good enough or you have a local friend to assist you, you can also try to order one online from Taobao or from this site:

http://www.xiaocong.com/ecshop/goods-30.html

(No, I have no contracts whatsoever with any of these companies and I do not guarantee for the quality of what they may sell.)

Not sure if ANY of those mixers sold here in China is suitable for making bread dough. They should be fine for whipping cream or mixing cake batter, but I am not sure whether they are good for kneading dough.

Good luck and happy baking!

You should also try looking for equipment in Dongjiao Market, very nearby to Dawanglu subway station. It's a huge market with a massive section for hotel and catering equipment.. industrial deep fat fryers, big hot water dispensers, full sets of dinnerware, coffee machines.. you should be able to find a bread dough machine thingy here for a reasonable price. And whatever else you've been looking for.. they have everything there.

Trust me, it's so danger.

I saw some hand mixers (electric) up in the shopping centre in the top floor of Wanda Plaza once. They have a section with small blenders and hand mixers. Its on the same floor as the kids toys etc.

And for herbs, spices and even normal pepper Jenny Lou's or Carrefour is where I get what I need. I agree its all a bit expensive so I only get what I desperately need. Next time I head home I'll stock up on everything else.

For nice bread you can try Coups in The Place or French Patisserie in Shin Kong Place. They're more high end but so nice for a change from the sweet Beijing breads.

There is also a store next to the Global Trade Mansion apartments that sells imported goods at a pretty good price (compared to Shin Kong, Ole etc)

Good Luck!

Is this the same thing as a hand blender? If so, I've seen them at department stores (such as SOGO) and assume you could also find them at any of the large electronics chains.

Spices at Jenny Lou are cheap. I just bought 30 grams of corriander seed for 3.8 yuan and a baggie stuffed full of cumin for 10 yuan. I can't remember the cost of the rest of my spices, but they are really cheap. I do remember for about 14 yuan I got more cinnamon than I could use in a couple years.

When you buy spices at Jenny Lou's, don't buy the prepackaged bottles, they're pricey. Buy the spices you ask a worker to scoop out and weigh for you. In the Sanlitun store, they're right next to the fresh cheese and ice cream case.

Also, spent a good while today looking for Meixinfang (www.bakeclub.com). When I got there, they were closed. I'm assuming they close every Monday? Anyway, from the Sanyuanqiao bus stop on 3rd ring road (heading North), continue walking north on the side street parallel to 3rd ring road. The road will eventually curve to the right. Stay on the right hand side of the street, walk about 3-5 minutes, and you'll see apartment complexes on the right hand side (I think 3-4 of them that all look the same). There will be a security gate, but you can just walk on through. The first building on your right will be Building B. The shop is on the second floor, unit 202.

You've passed the complex if you hit a dead end or if you pass the China Mobile service centers on your right.

Hope this helps someone find it easier than I did!
