What is the best restaurant for executives from out of town?
What are good places for taking execs from out of town? Best would be some kind of local flavor but not low-end in any way.
Anything in the Hidden City?
How is Domus?/
Green T. House?
Huajia Yiyuan?
Thanks for your help.

Pure Lotus, Da Dong and Noodle Loft are my typical three spots for out of town visitors.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Pure Lotus is great for this, but one always risks people objecting to no meet.

I never tell them its vegetarian. Order the One Finger Zen (veggie sausage) to start. they won't believe there's no meat

Maggie's is not the worst idea for after dinner. Is it still open? I guess Suzie Wong is the other major choice in that vein.

admin, Pure Lotus is one of the most overhyped, overrated restaurants in Beijing. It's total crap. The only thing that makes it bearable or even remotely interesting is the decor.

Suzie Wong sucks. Who wants to go to a bar that has shite service is full of pretetious twats and girls I can't afford?
Not I, said the fox.

Wow, you must be broke. That is, the working girls I saw there didn't look as though they could charge a helluva lot. Admittedly, I've only been there once and it could have been an off night for hos - I know it has a rep for them.
As for OP's question; My Humble House or Made In China...?
I think South Silk Road's Yun'nan cuisine is good for foreign guests. Stylish and unpretentious decor, lots of gross and exotic things on the menu that will not be ordered but will nevertheless impress - "we went to this restaurant that served bee larvae!!" - as well as lots of dishes pleasing to a western palate. Passable wine list. Not wildly expensive. I've only eaten at the SOHO DaWangLu restaurant; not sure about the one at Houhai, which is obviously in a better location.
As for LAN, forget it. Way too up itself, and I've never heard anyone speak favourably of the food.

What about the bar at the top of the Yintai tower in Guomao? That'd be impressive....

I agree with langfang about LAN. Overrated crap.
Underrated great food resto: Xiao Wangs Family restaurant in Ritan park.
And what's the deal with everyone commenting on the bathrooms? It's a f-ing toilet, ffs.

Re: What is the best restaurant for executives from out of ...
The Xiaowangfu in ritan is a good idea. Lan is probably best avoided.
I think the list is shaping up like this:
China Grill, Park Hyatt
Whampoa Club
My Humble House
Made in China
Pure Lotus
Da Dong Roast Duck
Noodle Loft
Xiao Wangfu
Dali Courtyard
South Silk Road's Yun'nan
What about Tiandi Yijia or Domus?
What do you think is the best place for drinks after?

Barbecue in the Mandarin Hotel...
Okay, bad joke.
Jaguar is impressive for foreigners, such big buffet is nice. Other is depending on the Nationality...1001nights with belly dance and smoking water pipe is also a nice experience.
Paulaner to get a good German beer is also famous ....but still depending on the taste and Nationality!

You can do Domus but it depends on your visitors - some may find it a bit tacky to pass by the oyster bar after you just wandered through poor hutongs to get there, and it's not Chinese at all. If you're in the area you might as well have drinks at the Emperor Hotel later on to stay within the "Forbidden City" theme. If you're out in Shunyi there's also the Green T House living.
Has anyone tried Bei?

Yeah, the emperor is a good idea. I hope the drinks have improved though.
Actually, for medium level people, Dali could be good.

I've been to Xiaowangfu...the food is decent - if not spectacular - but the place is in dire need of refurbishment and looking very long in the tooth. No ambience to speak of. If you wanted to impress, I'd go elsewhere.

Good choice. Anything with a buffet, really, to get a true feel for modern Chinese culture.

Re: What is the best restaurant for executives from out of ...
Actually, you're right; if you're taking a visiting family member or friend out, it's a great choice because everything the typical western visitor would want to try is on the menu - BJ duck, dumplings, yadda yadda yadda - and it's all done well. However, if I was wanting to impress, I have to say I wouldn't go there.
So, Stylites, what did you choose?

Re: What is the best restaurant for executives from out of ...
This place gets my vote. Very impressive. Good steaks, good service, amazing view. Would have been the best place to watch the CCTV fire.
Afterward, definitely Maggie's. It is, after all, the real reason they are coming here...

Re: What is the best restaurant for executives from out of ...
This place is best later in the spring when you can sit outside on the roof.
Another one to try is Najia Xiaoguan, which is right behind the New China Insurance building. Great (Manchurian) food, very nice old building and decor, reasonable prices.

Re: What is the best restaurant for executives from out of ...
sorry to disagree
jaguar is a living mayhem, whose only oddity/charm is the vast array of crap food: crap chinese food, crap japanese food, crap hotpot, crap indian food
and lots of clients piling up this crap into ... elaborate piles of crap : 25 crappy sushimis with 6 strawberry cakes and a dash of doufu all together on a plate, mmmh, yum yum!
and considering this place is as big and noisy as a jingkelong during peak hours ...
1001 nights is tacky & overpriced
sstylites, go for the combo made in china (but book a table not too close of some of the kitchen stands, the ventilation and frying oil stir ups are noisy), and then move to red moon, u don t want to lose momentum in ur business negociations
and when u close the deal, park hyatt all the way (on a clear night only, otherwise it s just too frustrating)
