Staying married is better for the planet because divorce leads the newly single to live more wasteful lifestyles, an Australian lawmaker said yesterday.
Senator Steve Fielding told a Senate hearing in the Australian capital Canberra that divorce only made climate change worse.
When couples separated, they needed more rooms, more electricity and more water. This increased their carbon footprint, Australian Associated Press (AAP) quoted Fielding as telling the hearing on environmental issues. Such a "resource-inefficient lifestyle" meant it would be better for the planet if couples stayed married, he said.
If you Australian guys could be a bit more faithful, us Americans could drive around in our Hummers in peace.

Wow, was unaware. Just thought it was a strange argument for a scientific discussion, but these days everything causes global warming.

its an endless cycle. We divorce our unfaithful former beloved, this causes global warming which causes us to walk around in less clothing which emboldens others to ask us out..which leads to another relationship...which leads to more warming
this planet is racing to it's destruction.
If you're going to be two-faced, at least make one of them good looking.

Eh? Divorce and environmental degradation are good things? Or just "valid lifestyle options"? An observation: a religious man who lives his faith is "a fanatic." One who does not is "a hypocrite." I guess that means the only options post-modernity leaves open are 1) the self-righteous secular prig; a.k.a., "the politically correct", or 2)the self-indulgent disbeliever. It took 5,000 years of recorded civilization to bring us from the simple savage to this? Lots of work to regress.

This Steve Fielding guy is wrong. Divorced, living separate people, have less kids than married living together couples. To save the planet long term he should be preaching against marriage and living together.
In addition, he could volunteer to be castrated. Same reason as before, eliminates kids to reduce any impact on the planet. It also would eliminate his f**ked up mentally defective genes from the gene pool, improving the remaining human population. If this guy were a normal human, I would say get a vasectomy if he wants to lower the impact of his family and his progeny on the planet, but since he's so religious, I think castration is more historically appropriate.
By the way... it would be one thing if Steve Fielding just lived his life by his beliefs. When he shoehorns every politically correct modern topic into a religious doctrine from 2 millenium ago to justify his modern views that have nothing to do with the original religious doctrine, then tries to use the combination to justify interfering with my life, then yes, he is a f**king hypocrite. He's not following Christ or the teaching of Christ He's just a self-indulgent self-righteous prig hiding behind religion.
