Blue-Ray DVD's on Regular Players
Since I am not up on the latest technology I have been holding off buying some DVD's labeled Blue-Ray. I do not have a Blue-Ray DVD player, just my trusty laptop with a regular player installed. Does anyone know if Blue-Ray's are playable on a regular DVD player?

Yeah, but it can be a little blurry, it depends on the pixel line rate of your TV, the maximum resolution of your DVD player, the type of DVD like progressive, and the country codes of the player vs. the code of the DVD.

The laser on your normal player isn't capable of distingishing the pits on the Blue Ray disk as they are much denser than a regular DVD. If a normal DVD could read them then the technology back then would have supported Blue Ray like capacities.

Re: Blue-Ray DVD's on Regular Players
The Blue Ray DVDs I bought play in my DVD player.
There are 2 types of Blue Ray discs here. Most of the Blue Ray DVDs you buy in China are copied from Blue Ray format to a non-Blue Ray discs that are converted to a normal DVD format. It is clearer, but some close up scenes can be too clear and focused to the point of being blurry.
You should take out the disc and compare the disc color to a regular DVD-9 to see what type of copy you have.

If the price is the same as a DVD-9 it is a not a real Blue Ray! No one would pay the extra cost of those discs without passing them on to you.

Blu-Ray discs will definitely NOT play on a standard DVD player. If someone has a "BlueRay" disc and you can watch it on a standard DVD player, it's fake.
However, you CAN watch a standard DVD and play CDs on a modern Blu-Ray player. Some ancient BR players have difficulty with CD's though.

The discs labelled "Blue-Ray" at my local movieshop isn't BR at all. The price is the same as the regular dvds, the quality is the same and they play in my dvd player. The sales lady even told my gf that they are not BR. As far as I know a true BR disc will not run on a dvd player at all.

This.
Blank Blu-Ray discs and the equipment to put movies onto them are many times more expensive than the DVD equivalent. Any "Blu-Ray" disc costing 10 kuai in a dodgy DVD shop is 100% guaranteed not to be.

This show went out in a manner that was refreshingly not like that of so many other dramas, which tend to become more dramatic, serious, and bleak in an effort to prove their ultimate profundity. Instead, the Lost was a combination of a lively lesson – how to survive in the wild. We could learn a lot in this show if you could buy a set of cheap DVD online and watch it again and again.(more www.dvdstreets.com)

In the early time of this year, the negotiation among Matthew Weiner, Lions Gate Television and AMC Television was spreaded bubbling with noise. This negotiation was called the longest and hardest one in the recent development of American television and it was ended as the result of Matthew Weiner renewing 3-year contract and gainning 30-million-dollar remuneration. It was also because of its long time, Mad Men could not return to the screen in this summer. Its 5th season will broadcast in next March. Information offered by cheap DVD street.(www.dvdstreets.com)
