union bar and grill, tube stations throughout the city have them (not too good tho), grandmas kitchen...

Not East side but worth a try, "Hollywood" on Beishida campus (West gate) has the best philly cheese steak I´ve ever had and I´ve tried all the above.

2 years ago, I would have said the 5:19 as Dave made the best one around.... sadly it's closed!

Now, if I really need one of them phillies, I head over to Peter's Tex Mex next to the St. Regis. Great philly there.

Ok, it's not just me then. I always have the Hollywood philly cheese steak when I go shopping at Sogo. It's surprisingly satisfying for what it costs.

By the way, they call it the "cheese and beef sandwich" (in Chinese) on their menu.

Just make your own. Buy shrooms, onions, green peppers, cheese...

I add some hot peppers, black pepper and salt. It's pretty reasonable to do here.

Also by Beishida is the Tube Station from the same owner as Kro's Nest. They have a pretty greasy, mean Philly Cheesesteak at a reasonable price. A bit heavy for my taste.
