F Visa Extension

My F Visa Expires on May 5 and I need to get it extended up to August, when I would be here a year, and have to leave. I paid for an L to F last time but would like to do the extension myself to save a couple of thousand or so. Do I need to have any fancy paper work or letters to extend an F visa, anything like x amount of money in the bank? Or is it simple like an L extension?

You need an invitation letter, just like you needed one when you first got it.

Do you need to re-enter China each time before extending the F visa or within 12 months is not required?

If that's a question, I'd need a multiple as I may need to go somewhere and come back.

yes , acorroding the policy , you can stay in china one year from the date when you entried totally ,so you can extend it from may to august ,and get sigle entrace ,then itis prefect that you leave china once before the new visa expire , in this case ,when you come back , you can extend it again from the new entrance date for one year , so you donnt need invitation letter again .after one year out of china again , re-entry again ,and extend it agian

By the way extend f visa application documents:
1 Passport with current visa
2 Residence Registration Certificate in BinJing
3 Entry visa/Resident Permit Appliation form with employer's company chop
4 two recent 2-inch photo with pale bule backgroud
5 F visa Application letter in favour of applicant by hostingorganisation to beijing Municipal Administation of Entry&Exit
6 Currently audited Budiness licence

Hi mission002, here are two options for you:
1. Getting an invitation letter before leaving China and re-applying a F visa to re-entre China. Once you come back, you can extend it.
2. Leaving China and come back before your current F visa expires, then you will be extend it again without leaving the country.
