In all the news coming out now there is a lot of talk about a type of Coca Cola that is coming to the stores now and available once a year for about a month. Some call it Jewish Coke, Koshar Coke, or Pass over Coke. Either way, it is special because it is the closest thing to the original coke of the early 1900’s where it was made of sugar not high fructose corn syrup (which is known to cause a lot of health problems). It makes Coke taste better, lighter, and bubblier (the corn syrup makes it heavier).
Other people tend to buy this type of Coke in Mexican grocery stores and restaurants, but it often is old, flat, and the glass bottles appear dirty, not to mention people in the USA don’t tend to like products made in Mexico or have Mexican water.
Is High Fructose Corn Syrup in a lot of Chinese beverages? One of the main reasons it is used in the USA is that corn syrup is cheaper than cane sugar, and ever since the Cuban embargo in the 1950’s sugar has been a rationing of sugar in consumer products has occurred and the government has encourages the use of corn products to help farmers rather than importing cane sugar from South American countries which are either not friendly or run by pseudo-dictatorial regimes that spend a large part of their GDP on their military.
In the grocery markets in China, corn seems to be much less expensive and much less sweet than the varieties in the USA. I can’t imagine that high fructose corn syrup is less expensive in China or throughout Asia.
Does anyone id real sugar is used in any Coke or Pepsi drinks in China? Are Chinese sodas made with sugar? Does Chinese cola seem better than the USA version, or more bubbly?
